Lostprophets are a rock band from Pontypridd, Wales, which was formed in 1997 by vocalist Ian Watkins, bassist Mike Lewis, drummer Mike Chiplin and guitarist Lee Gaze. The band came together from the ashes of a hard core punk band, Public Disturbance.

The band got their start playing local venues across Wales, England, Scotland and Ireland. The band recorded a number of demos which caught the attention of the indie record label, Visible Noise, who signed the band in 1999. Lostprophets debut album “Thefakesoundofprogress” arrived in 2000.

The band hit the road and began to set their sights on breaking into the American markets. A record deal followed in the U.S with Columbia Records. The band's second offering, “Start Something” arrived in 2004, and was a commercial success, peaking at #4 on the U.K. Albums chart.

2005 saw founding member Mike Chiplin leave the band to pursue other musical projects. The band got to work on their third offering, “Liberation Transmission,” which was released in 2006. The album marked a change in musical direction somewhat, with a more contemporary, mellow sound. It peaked at #1 on the U.K. Albums chart and was a commercial success.

2009 saw the band performing at The Reading Festival and the departure of Ilan Rubin who went on to join Nine Inch Nails. Luke Johnson replaced Rubin as the band's new drummer in August 2009. Next the band embarked on a U.K. tour before going back into the studio to begin work on their fourth album, 2010’s “The Betrayed.”

The band's fifth studio album, “Weapons,” marked a change in record labels, leaving the indie label world and moving on to the majors with Epic Records in 2012. More touring ensued with the band performing at Australia's Soundwave festival that year before another European tour.
