Gustavo Santaolalla To Become BMI Icon

Oscar-winning composer Gustavo Santaolalla will be honored as a BMI Icon at the Broadcast Music Inc. organization's upcoming 15th annual Latin Awards ceremony. Santaolalla, who has won Academy Awards for his soundtracks to Brokeback Mountain and Babel, will receive his award at the event on June 12 in Los Angeles.

The BMI Icon award is given to artists who have had a "unique and indelible influence on generations of music makers."

Previous winners have included Brian Wilson, Dolly Parton, Los Tigres Del Norte and Juan Luis Guerra.

Fergie Collaborates With Mexican Band

Black Eyed Peas star Fergie has teamed up with Mexican band Los Tigres Del Norte to record a new track. The singer, 32, was keen to work with the band, according to frontman Jorge Hernández, and is preparing for the release in March.

Hernández tells PeopleEnEspanol.com, "She said that she'd like to do something with us. They didn't speak directly with me. What I do know is that Fergie's producer and the person in charge of her projects got in contact with people from the company (Univisión Music), and they were chatting about how they wanted to do some things with us."

Latin Music Awards Hand Out Honors

Los Tigres Del Norte, Wisin & Yandel, Francisco Saldana and Manual Eduardo Toscano were among the big winners at the 14th annual Latin Music Awards on Friday.

Veteran group Los Tigres del Norte claimed the night's BMI Icon honor while Wisin & Yandel stars Juan Morera Luna and Llandel Veguilla were named Songwriters of The Year.

Songwriter/producers Saldana and Toscano were also saluted, while Shakira's hit La Tortura claimed the night's Song of The Year prize.

The awards were held at the Venetian Resort Hotel in Las Vegas.

Shakira Dominates Latin Grammy Award Nominations

The 7th Annual Latin Grammy Awards nominations were announced today, and Colombian singer/songwriter Shakira led the nominations with five. Shakira's five nominations include: Record Of The Year, Song Of The Year and Best Short Form Music Video for "La Tortura," and Album Of The Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Album for Fijación Oral Vol. 1.

Ricardo Arjona, Gustavo Cerati and Julieta Venegas garner four apiece; Calle 13, Chayanne, Gustavo Celis, Fonseca, Cachorro López, and Joan Sebastian are among those who earned three nods each.
