Masonic Theatre Oct 10, 2007 Money Can Buy Annie Medicine! I was there and having made it to 51 I am lucky to have seen Annie 25 years ago in Atlanta Ga., and last night in SF. She has and will always be a legend in my ipod, cassette player, 8 track player, walkman, stereo…..you get the devotion? Her style, myriad of feelings she takes my posse of girl’s ages 51 to 60 (to date) to the moon. She is eccentric and so are we. We middlescence girls have lived a life close to hers yet way on the fringe, and we can’t sing but we sure as hell do. Women like Annie from 17 when she left home to become a legend in our living room are rare. Annie we relate to you, we appreciate you, we are grateful you share you woman medicine with us. My posse have felt the deep sadness, why, why, have mercy on us, times we still do everything to much, we celebrate the extremes and your artistry too much. You are our soul sister who sang “sisters are doing it for themselvesâ€, like a true soul sister from Hot Lana. My posse and I have been friends for 30 years and have been your friend for the same time girl! I asked Jackie Jackson to request that you autograph the back of a photo of my posse from circa 1985 (fuzzy from the “too muchâ€) for a friend of mine with the longest legs in a white leather mini skirt. She has had cancer touch her family in a soul wrenching way and her gut feels the drain you sing of. Why should she loose her sister so young? Why, why, your songs bring peace and reckoning. Oh yeah the review, she was unbelievable, voice kicking a__, giving the blast of her talent at full throttle. She hit every note; no loss of force, the intensity was blown home with a wind coming from her core that could have brought George B. out of the White House to Nawlins and Katrina victims lickety split… She has gotten beyond better as one of us girls does; she is akin to wine when we keep long enough to savor. Annie your physical expression of how your songs make you feel are so, (dare I say) “totally awesome†.I hope you can share anything you choose no expectations on the back of the photo I gave to Jackie Jackson The photo is the only copy, not scanned, no techno repro anywhere, she looked me in the eye and said “I will return to you via post†in her mesmerizing English accent and her larger than life hair the way sisters are supposed to be. I knew in that moment I could trust her with our memory. I can’t wait to regale you and the audacity you have to show your white arms to the world at 52, girl you got big b___s. Arms ain’t too shabby either, keep on keeping on. Hold your head up; keep your head up and your arms at the same time. I miss Dave yet, when I walked down memory lane looking at the past videos’ of yall I felt you have not changed because of your chi (Chinese) for roots (southern. Your voice, I would like to experience just for one of your songs. I can’t decide which one right now, just feeling that possibility of blowing your tunes at the force you possess makes me feel like I do when the girls are talking at the same time in an elevator the size of the ones here in SF. I feel like jumping around the living room in my pink fuzzy slippers. With a wig of platinum hair like yours. I will tell of you in SF a balmy evening at the Masonic Theatre, you wearing a little black sheath made "Annieish" by the tights and funky shoes. We will be a dancing atop the coffee table to your songs and sharing the lives we lived and will to the next lone. So, if you touch that photo I know we will feel your perfect embodiment of an intangible quality; the personification: of happiness and misery that women know and embrace making us “all thatâ€. My wise girl posse will always do everything too much, we are grateful to you for sharing your spirit. Gritsatthebeach Muir Beach, Cali (by way of Georgia) Oh yeah one more thing, since you are sooo busy can Jackie join our posse when she has time off? She has my address and number at the office. I have a guest house on the ocean. I won’t tell anyone who she is I promise. | ||
