Will R&B Ever Recover From Sales Inconsistencies?

9/10/2013 7:30pm EDT
John Legend
On Tuesday, September 3, 2013, I felt reassured about the output of R&B music.  As perused the CD aisle at the local Best Buy, I felt excited to see the majority of new releases were R&B (Neko Case and Nine Inch Nails among exemptions).  That observation should be shocking in itself.  This included established artists like John Legend, Jaheim, and Raheem DeVaughn, as well as rising artists in Tamar Braxton (a ‘reintroduction’ you might say) and Ariana Grande (a pop/R&B blend).  From my perspective, being an R&B lover who’s at his best singing along with a slow jam, I was happy to see such a...

Review: John Legend, 'Love In The Future'

9/5/2013 2:30pm EDT
John Legend
The gap between John Legend‘s solo albums has been a staggering five years! UGH! Sure, we haven’t been without those soulful pipes completely, but Evolver was the last ‘Legend’ album itself.  And arguably on that effort, Legend wasn’t even his traditional self necessarily, eschewing neo-soul for the more trendy contemporary R&B of the time.  Now it’s 2013 and neo-soul has been six-feet under – nobody’s doing it anymore, much to my chagrin.  Another Evolver certainly wasn’t the proper direction for a singer who thrives from his gospel-infused runs, regardless whether “Green Light” was a welc...

Stars braved the steamy temperatures in Las Vegas to celebrate music at the Billboard Music Awards and show off the latest styles. However, not everyone was up to the task - here are the best and worst dressed at the Billboard Music Awards.

Best: Taylor Swift, at first glance, looked like she was a wardrobe malfunction waiting to happen. Instead, we got the classy and proper style we've come to expect from the star.

Worst: We want to give Jason Derulo props for being a little outside the box with the dotted suit, but it looks like he forgot a tie or a vest or something so we don't h...

2012 Grammy Awards Fashion: Some Wore Colors While Most Wore Black On A Bittersweet Evening

2012 Grammy Awards
The 2012 Grammy Awards will forever be remembered for one reason: the event took place the night after the music industry lost one of their biggest stars in an untimely fashion: Whitney Houston.

Despite the somber undertones of host LL Cool J's opening prayer for the late singer and a rousing performance of her hit song "I Will Always Love You" by Jennifer Hudson; the night was about the music and the attitude that the show must go on.

As always with award shows, the night is also about the fashion. While many stars wore black - perhaps in honor of the late Houston - many stars let the c...

The songwriter insists the track is a little too similar to his song "Where Are You Now?...
