John Legend is adamant he did not copy a track from an aspiring artist who has accused him of plagiarism, insisting he would "never steal anyone's song."

Anthony Stokes has filed suit against the soul star, alleging he handed him a demo tape after a concert in 2004 and later heard similarities with his work in Legend's 2006 recording, Maxine's Interlude.

Stokes claims Legend's song is based on his own track Where Are You Now?, but the singer has vehemently denied the allegations and has vowed to fight the case in court.

R&B star John Legend is at the center of a song-stealing lawsuit.

An unknown hopeful, called Anthony Stokes, claims Legend ripped off a song he handed over in a demo.

In a lawsuit, filed earlier this week in New Jersey and obtained by TMZ.com, the songwriter reveals he gave the tape to Legend in 2004 after a concert.

Legend reportedly promised to listen to the song but he never got back to Stokes, who forgot all about his Legend-ary meeting until he heard a track called "Maxine's Interlude" in 2006.

Rapper Kanye West is preparing to release a new solo album this summer, just months after wowing critics with "My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy."

The "Stronger" hitmaker's fifth release was named the album of 2010 in a string of end-of-year polls.
