'Project Runway' 9 Recap: Rock That Look

September 23rd, 2011 11:08am EDT
Project Runway
On this week’s episode of "Project Runway," Heidi cryptically tells the designers that “image is everything.” This is the part that Bert hates, when everyone is left trying to put the clues together to figure out the challenge. If anyone guessed that the challenge would be a giant promotional push for someone or something, they’d have been right! But they could pretty much guess that every week and be right. (And now I’m contractually obligated to say, “GARNIER!”)

Yes, Garnier is featured pretty prominently throughout this episode, which I suppose is fitting considering that the designer...

In the September issue of OUT, Maroon 5 singer Adam Levine talks frankly about the way his family responded to his younger brother when he came out.

The musician, a coach on NBC’s wildly-successful "The Voice," was scathing of families who try to change a gay child. "A lot of people don’t want their kid to be gay and will fight it al...

'American Idol' Recap: Was This The Most Boring Finale Ever?

May 25th, 2011 9:35am EDT
Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery
The most boring finalists ever. That seemed to be the conventional wisdom going into the evening. That, despite a strong start, this season of ‘Idol’ was destined to fall into oblivion with two dull finalists that wouldn’t be able to deliver the finale this Renaissance season deserved.

Yes, that might be true. It may have been more interesting to see James square off against Pia or Jacob take on Haley, but that doesn’t necessarily mean this is the most boring collection of contestants ever, does it?

Here’s a ranking of finale pairings from least boring to most boring:

When he did that 'Heavy Metal' [Sammy Hagar] song, James was note-perfect. He was on pitch, which is usually kind of an issue, and I think he sounded really good, but it felt like a copycat. Thia Megia performs on AMERICAN IDOL
And now I’m ready to ease up on this season.

Last night we got one of those vintage ‘Idol’ nights that remind us why this show became so popular in the first place. Solid performances of some of our favorite songs by kids that actually have a ton of talent.

Sure there were a few clunkers, but these were sandwiched in between the kind of transcendent performances that finally give ‘Idol’ fans the ability to scoff at people who scoff at them when they say the watch ‘Idol’. Because those who turn their nose up missed the opportunity to see Pia, Jacob, Stefano and others absolutely slay some ...
