Chaka Khan is standing by her son Damien as he recovers in a rehab center after allegedly killing his friend by accident, insisting he will one day be able to "live a good life."

In what Khan believes was a tragic accident, her son Damien Holland shot dead Christopher Bailey, 17, with an assault rifle during a 2004 argument in the singer's Los Angeles home.

Khan testified daily during the ensuing 2006 trial in support of her son, who was eventually acquitted.

And the R&B star insists she is continuing to support him as he undergoes psychological treatment at a facility.

Chaka Khan 'Terrified' Of Her Broadway Debut

Soul veteran Chaka Khan is getting nervous about her impending Broadway debut. The I'm Every Woman singer, 54, is set to appear in the stage adaptation of Alice Walker's Pulitzer Prize-winning novel The Color Purple early next year.

Khan will play Sophia in the eagerly awaited production, a role previously tackled by heavyweight talk show queen Oprah Winfrey in Steven Spielberg's 1985 take on the novel.

She says, "It's exciting and scary at the same time."

American blues singer Etta James has been hospitalized in Los Angeles after suffering complications from abdominal surgery.
