KRS-One Creates A Religion Based On Hip Hop

Rap icon KRS-One has launched his own religion, complete with a 600 page 'bible' for potential followers. The new faith is based on rap and the holy text called "The Gospel Of Hip Hop: The First Instrument."

The star - real name Lawrence Krishna Parker - tells AllHipHop.com, "It explores the spirituality of hip hop, the divinity of hip hop. I'm suggesting that in 100 years, this book will be a new religion on the earth. EPMD To Release First Album In Nine Years

Legendary hip-hop duo EPMD are heading back into the studio to record their first album in nine years.

Erick Sermon and Parish Smith have not released any new material together since 1999's Out of Business - but they are gearing up for a comeback this winter.

The pair has recruited help from Raekwon, Keith Murray, Havoc from Mobb Deep, and rap pioneer KRS-One for the album's tracks, while the LP will be produced by the likes of Teddy Riley and 9th Wonder.

Blues Singer Sues Michael Jackson, Will Smith, Tupac

Blues singer Syl Johnson is suing stars including Michael Jackson, Will Smith and Tupac Shakur for copyright infringement, claiming they illegally sampled his song Different Strokes without giving him credit for the track.

The veteran star filed suit recently in an Illinois court, claiming Jackson's hit Blood on the Dance Floor, Smith's Who Stole the D.J. and the late Shakur's Peep Game all used his song - without paying for the rights to do so.

KRS-One Cancels Son's Memorial Service

Rapper KRS-One and his wife Simone Parker have pulled plans for a memorial service for their son Randy Hubbard Parker, blaming "personal reasons" for the cancellation.

The late 23-year-old - KRS' stepson - was found dead in his apartment in Atlanta, Georgia on July 6.

Parker claims Randy's suicide from a single gunshot wound to the head was related to severe depression.

In announcing the cancellation of the memorial service, which was due to take place in New York on August 6, the couple thanked well-wishers and apologized for their late decision.

Prince, Krs-One and Outkast star Andre 3000 have teamed up with civil rights activist Dr Cornel West for a new album project to promote hip-hop. Veteran rapper Ice Cube has slammed the state of contemporary hip-hop, insisting most performers are only interested in the "bling" lifestyle. The 37-year-old wishes more rappers would embrace political issues instead of material gain.

He says, "Political rap has been pushed into the background, and rap has turned into bling party music. Groups like Public Enemy and KRS-One have no stage any more. I've been doing this 20 years - but rap is full of bravado now, and nobody wants to listen."
