Quincy Jones
Jazz Manifesto
Release Date: 2009 07 14
Label: Jazz Manifesto
Rating:

Jazz Manifesto appears to be a legitimately licensed compilation of Quincy Jones material fro his early years, running roughly from 1955 through 1957. It's a double-disc set that contains his first few albums for Verve in their entirety, and a smattering of other tracks such as "I Could Write a Book," with Lena Horne. Sound quality is good, the package is budget, and so is the price. This is the early jazz sound of Jones, so fans of his '60s, '70s, and later material should be informed. That said, this is first-class big-band material by an arranger who seems to have arrived on the scene fully formed as an artist in his own right. Thom Jurek, All Music Guide
