Paul Kantner, the sole remaining founding member of Jefferson Starship, has joined other veteran acts in issuing multiple live albums of his band's endless tour. For this July 2005 date in Chilliwack, British Columbia, Canada, the rest of the group includes singer Diana Mangano (whose thankless job is to channel Grace Slick and, on "Jane," Mickey Thomas), lead guitarist Slick Aguilar, keyboardist Chris Smith, and drummer Prairie Prince. These sorts of releases tend to be bare-bones, but this one is also sonically substandard, sounding more like an under-recorded bootleg (albeit from the soundboard). The group efficiently runs through a repertoire that actually includes more Jefferson Airplane songs than Jefferson Starship numbers. Leaving aside Aguilar's solos, this is not a band of improvisers like the Grateful Dead, introducing numerous variations in the music (though they make a stab at doing so during the 16½-minute "Ballad of You & Me & Pooneil"), so the album may have an appeal limited to completists and people from Chilliwack. (Contrary to the Tracks list in the package, "High Flying Bird" is the ninth and last track on the first disc, not part of a medley that starts the second.)
