Rick James' Estate Moves To Block Mary Jane Girls Reunion

Overseers of Rick James' estate have launched lawsuit to ban a reunion by two members of the Mary Jane Girls, the 1980s girl group put together by the funk legend.

The band was formed by James and went on to have hits with In My House, All Night Long and Candy Man.

Two of the group's stars, Kimberly 'Maxi' Wuletich and Cheri 'Candy' Wells-Chez, recently reformed for a small tour, but executors of James' estate insist the singers did not ask permission.

R&B group Sister Sledge have launched a court battle in a bid to secure lost revenue from their digital music sales.

The We Are Family hit-makers have joined with Oscar-nominated actress/songwriter Ronee Blakely to sue Warner Music Group, claiming they're owed millions of dollars in unpaid royalties.

In their lawsuit, filed on Thursday, the artists claim they have lost revenue due to calculations based on "sales" rather than "licenses".

No Illegal Drugs Found At Teena Marie's Home

Police investigating singer/songwriter Teena Marie's cause of death have reportedly ruled out an illegal drug overdose following a search of her California home.

The 54 year old, born Mary Christine Brockert, passed away in her sleep at her home in Pasadena over the weekend.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ.com police searched the residence but only found herbal medication, suggesting she may have died of natural causes.

Marie, who found fame as a protegee of late funk legend Rick James, suffered a grand mal seizure just last month.

Singer/songwriter Teena Marie has died. She was 54.

Born Mary Christine Brockert in California in March, 1956, the Grammy Award-nominated star found fame as a protege of late funk legend Rick James.

As Tina Marie Brockert, she landed a role on TV show The Beverly Hillbillies as a child, but her career really took off in the mid-1970s when she signed to Motown Records. As a label artist, she came to the attention of James, who produced her debut album "Wild and Peaceful."

The album featured Teena Marie's first big hit, "I'm Just a Sucker for Your Love."

Last month, VH1 announced plans to revive its iconic series, "Behind the Music," this summer. The network has ordered 10 new episodes which will focus mainly on newer artists, including Lil Wayne and Scott Weiland of Stone Temple Pilots/Velvet Revolver.

The estate of the late Rick James is suing the singer's former music publisher for allegedly continuing to enter into new contracts, despite being told its services were no longer required.

The lawsuit, filed last week at the Los Angeles Superior Court, claims Brooklyn Music Publishing is still collecting commissions from contracts agreed with firms in Europe and refuses to hand over key copyright documents and information to the estate and its new publisher, Wixen Music Publishing.
