A judge has granted Jermaine Jackson, 58, permission to officially change the spelling of his famous last name.
 
In November, Michael Jackson's older brother filed papers in Los Angeles Superior Court, requesting to legally alter his surname to "Jacksun" for "artistic reasons."

Steve Dennis, a friend of the singer, said Jermaine's reasons for the spelling change is purely for performance purposes. "Phonetically, it changes nothing," Dennis told the AP. Jermaine Jackson has filed paperwork to legally change his last name. On Tuesday, the singer submitted documents at the Los Angeles County Superior Court to alter one letter in his surname from "Jackson" to "Jacksun."

According to TMZ.com, Jermaine wishes to make the change for "artistic reasons."

A hearing has been scheduled for a judge to consider the former Jackson 5 singer's request.

Armed cops swooped on the Jackson family estate in Encino, California estate on Friday, after responding to a burglary-in-progress call. Los Angeles Police Department officers with shotguns swarmed the family home of Katherine Jackson following a 911 call.
