Nelly forced 50 Cent to apologise to Ashanti

January 2nd, 2014 3:10am EST
Rapper Nelly once forced 50 Cent to apologise to his then-girlfriend Ashanti after the R&B singer became caught up in the In Da Club hitmaker's feud with her label mate Ja Rule.

The G-Unit frontman fired a series of verbal shots at Ja Rule and his fellow Murder Inc. Records artists during their fall-out in the early 2000s, and Ashanti was mentioned in a number of diss tracks.

However, she received an apology from 50 Cent at the MTV Video Music Awards in Las Vegas in 2007, when Nelly helped to smooth over relations between the pair.

During a radio interview with America's DJ Whoo Kid, who...

'American Idol' Recap: Jacob Lusk Exits And J-Lo Takes The Stage

May 6th, 2011 9:21am EDT
Jacob Lusk is eliminated
After weeks of making the same prediction, I’m finally right.

It was easy to feel it coming. For some reason the audience never quite connected with Jacob. He was always in and around the bottom three, never quite got the cheers, and the judges were always very restrained in their praising him.

I’ve never understood any of this. To me, Jacob was the best contestant this year by a long shot, and the best since Adam Lambert – maybe even better. Yes, he had a tendency to veer into oversinging territory on more than one occasion and he may have been a bit too ostentatious for some people’s ta...

He stunned the star-studded crowd when he took the mic and began spitting lyrics to West's "Runaway," inspired by the rapper's fallout from last year's MTV Video Music Awards, which saw him storm the stage during Taylor Swift's ...

Lloyd Banks Apologizes To Ashanti

September 10th, 2010 1:00pm EDT
Lloyd Banks
G-Unit rapper Lloyd Banks has offered an apology to Ashanti for targeting her during his feud with her former label Murder Inc., insisting it "wasn't anything personal."

The hip-hop star was embroiled in a war-of-words with the record label after his band mate 50 Cent fell out with their artist Ja Rule in the late 1990s. During the bitter feud Banks berated Ashanti, name checking her in his 2003 single What Goes Around, saying her "sideburns are thicker than mine."

And the same year Ashanti spoke out, calling for Banks to drop the controversy: "I wish that it would cease. It's very unfo...

Singer/actress Jennifer Lopez is calling on Kanye West to write her a hit song - because she is desperate to work with the rapper.

The star has faced a handful of setbacks while attempting to revive her music career - she delayed the release of her seventh album, Love?, before eventually quitting her record label Epic Records to sign a contract with Island Def Jam. And Lopez insists a duet with West would be a dream come true.

A track with West wouldn't be ...

50 Cent Gets In Depth On His Rise & Loss Of Mother On VH1's 'Behind The Music'

October 16th, 2009 9:57am EDT
50 Cent
50 Cent's episode of "Behind The Music" showed a slightly softer side to the controversial rapper. Unlike the other episodes that have premiered since the music special's re-launch, 50's episode highlighted more of his achievements than his setbacks.

The episode started off by shedding light on 50 Cent's humble beginnings. 50 (real name Curtis Jackson) briefly spoke about the death of his mother when he was 8 years old. By 12, 50 decided to get into the drug life by selling drugs. While his grandparents thought he was at the after school program, he was out selling crack cocaine.

'Gotti's Way' Is An Honest Look At A Hard Working Man, Troubled Marriage

July 7th, 2009 8:32am EDT
While a majority of television reality shows tend to focus on mating conquests, VH1 "Gotti's Way 2" deviates into whole other direction. "Gotti's Way 2" followed the same overall synopsis of the previous season, scrutinizing Irv Gotti's role as the president of the Murder Inc. music label, that spawned many notable hip hop recording stars from Ashanti and DMX to Ja Rule, and focusing on his personal life and attempts to resurrect his career after a federal indictment for money laundering in 2005.

Gotti's keen intuition to move into reality television and showcase his own dysfunctional ...

Overrated & Underrated Pop Duets

October 3rd, 2008 10:11am EDT
Paul McCartney/Stevie Wonder
Sometimes one just ain't enough.

That's a line, okay an amended line, from the rarest of rock treats - the duet. Everyone loves when two pop icons team up for a single. It's just like those rare occasions when two solo wrestlers join forces for a super tag-team.

Just like its brethren in the WWE the results for pop duets are often much less than the sum of their parts. Still, each duet holds a special spot, or two, in the minds of music fans.

So it's easy to say that all duets are overrated isn't it? Well, that would be the case if it weren't for the fact that so many gr...

September 19th, 2008 9:36am EDT
50 Cent
50 Cent has ended his long rift with rival rapper Jadakiss, and the pair are now planning a collaboration. The pair has been at war ever since Jadakiss appeared on Murder Inc. rapper Ja Rule's 2004 track New York, which took a swipe at the "Candy Shop" star.

But Jadakiss - real name Jayson Tyrone Phillips - has met with 50 Cent and cleared the air.

He tells Hip Hop Weekly, "We hollered like grown men, kicked it, and hopefully there's a good outcome off of this."

Why Are So Many Rappers Acting?

August 27th, 2008 11:46am EDT
This isn't to bash rappers, nor is it to say that these artists aren't allowed to pursue different paths in Hollywood. With so many prominent rappers acquiring roles in big movies though, it begs the question-why?

It's not as if rappers in movies are a new thing. In 1991, Mario Van Peebles cast Ice-T as a cop in "New Jack City," a film that is beloved by many. That same year, director John Singleton cast Ice Cube as a Los Angeles gangbanger in "Boyz N the Hood." These two movies helped open the floodgates for rappers to enter the world of acting.

Soon, Will Smith went from rap...

A Quick Look At Some Top Rap Feuds

August 22nd, 2008 9:12am EDT
The music industry has always thrived on fabricated competition to generate publicity; The Beatles vs. The Rolling Stones, The Beatles vs. Elvis Presley, Madonna vs. Cyndi Lauper, Nirvana vs. Pearl Jam, and Jonas Brothers vs. Tokio Hotel, are all apt examples of this. In comparison to the examples given here however, competition is never more prevalent than in the Hip Hop arena. It is a platform where the verbal expression of ego driven beefs and putdowns have now become part of the art itself upon which success thrives. Whether recorded or done on video, it sets Rap music apart from a...

February 27th, 2008 10:22am EST
Lil Wayne
Rapper Lil' Wayne has downplayed his recent brushes with the law - insisting he is "only human" and "everybody makes mistakes".

The star - real name Dwayne Michael Carter Jr. - is facing drugs and weapons charges in Arizona after a border patrol inspection of the rapper's tour bus allegedly revealed marijuana, cocaine, ecstasy and miscellaneous drug paraphernalia as well as a 40-caliber pistol.

The 25-year-old appeared in court earlier this month pleading not guilty to all four felony counts. The hip-hop star has also pleaded not guilty to gun charges in New York relating to an in...

50 Cent Denies Stories He Made Paris Hilton Cry

February 5th, 2008 10:53am EST
50 Cent
Rap superstar 50 Cent has denied kicking Paris Hilton offstage and reducing her to tears during a pre-Super Bowl concert - insisting he "ain't (sic) that heartless".

Hilton hosted the bash for 944 magazine in Scottsdale, Arizona and was reported to have been deeply upset when the rapper forced her out of the limelight at the party on Thursday.

But the hip-hop star and his band insist the reports are inaccurate - because they would never treat the socialite badly.

DJ Whoo Kid, who was on stage with 50 Cent at the event, tells MTV.com, "It's no way we would kick Paris Hilton of...
