During the 2006 Grammy week in Los Angeles, MusiCares brought together a group of legendary artists to pay tribute to James Taylor and his famous works at their annual Person of the Year gala. The event honored Taylor for his outstanding contributions to the world of music and for his exemplary philanthropic efforts.

"We wanted to take our time and find ourselves," says Robert Randolph. "Find out what was really inside of me and the band and bring that out. Really try to come up with the best songs, dig deep within, and let all of the experiences that we have had in the last three years come out in the music."

Soul sensation India.Arie insists she isn't bothered about chart positions, she's just grateful that people buy her music and attend her concerts. The singer's latest album Testimony, Vol 1: Life & Relationships recently hit the top of the Billboard album charts in America.

Country legend Johnny Cash has scored his first US album chart number one in almost 30 years - three years after his death. Cash recorded "American V: A Hundred Highways" from a wheelchair at his home in Tennessee as he battled blindness and diabetes in his final four months.

India.Arie has stunned chart watchers in America by taking her new album to the top of the charts. Boosted by a show-stealing Chaka Khan tribute that she performed at the Black Entertainment Television (BET) Awards on June 27, the singer scored her best sales week ever (161,000) to land at number one with Testimony Vol. 1, Life & Relationship (click for review).

Mary J. Blige, Kanye West and Jamie Foxx were big winners at the BET Awards last night. All three stars walked away from the ceremony, which celebrates black artists, at the Shrine Auditorium, in Los Angeles, with two prizes each.
