James Newton Howard was born June 9, 1951 in Los Angeles, California and is a composer best known for his scores to motion pictures. Howard’s work has earned him eight Academy Award nominations and the respect of his fellow composers. Howard’s love for music began in childhood. He began to seriously study music once out of high school. His break came when he was offered a spot as a keyboardist for Elton John in the late 1970s. Howard subsequently dropped out of college, opting to go on the road with John instead.
