The Learning Curve: Music To Contemplate This Week

January 29th, 2009 10:54am EST
New Years Day
(The Learning Curve) There's literally something for everyone's palette. This week is a journey. Hit the dance floor with SS Nova and Blaqk Audio, whip out the air guitar with Lynam, jump in the mosh pit with Demon Hunter and then start singing along with New Years Day.

This week you might see some familiar faces in some of these bands, but still, they are worth a listen. The members that formed these bands sound little or nothing like their old calling cards, so make sure you take the time to listen.

Enjoy my friends.

Starpulse Asks: Where Have All the Songwriters Gone?

October 26th, 2007 3:49pm EDT
Pop tunesmiths are a baker's dozen. After the late-90s surge of uber song doctors such as Desmond Child and Diane Warren (known for that Titanic song), Justin Timberlake found his "SexyBack" and his own writing voice following years of whistling Max Martin dixie. Heck, even Britney Spears penned tunes from her Britney effort. (This year's tepid train wreck "Blackout" features a pitiful two songs co-written by the popstar.)

But what goes around comes around. A mere glance at the contemporary pop offerings finds only a chapbook of singer-songwriters. Ms. Warren's cheeseball balladry has ...

Faber Drive
Canadian quartet Faber Drive's debut album, Seven Second Surgery, is in stores now. The album features the singles "Tongue Tied" and "Second Chance."

Faber Drive got their first break when lead singer/guitarist, Faber, submitted a song to a Vancouver radio station's battle of the bands in 2006. The band won the competition and soon the pieces started coming together. Faber Drive hooked up with Hinder producer Brian Howes and Nickelback producer Joey Moi, who were blown away by Faber's acoustic demos. Howes asked if he could co-write with Faber and Moi offered to start preproduction....

Faber Drive's Long-Awaited Debut Album 'Seven Second Surgery' To Hit Stores Oct. 9

Seven Second Surgery
Faber Drive broke onto the Canadian music scene in 2006 by winning the 'Battle of the Bands' at 99.3 The FOX and came Vancouver's #1 band. Now in 2007, Faber Drive has recorded their first album with producers Brian Howes (Hinder) and Joey Moi (Nickelback). Faber Drive has toured with everyone from MxPx to Nickelback.

When Faber Drive decided to submit a song to Vancouver radio station 99.3 The Fox's battle of the bands last year, their goal wasn't to win the contest. They weren't even sure they were good enough to enter. In fact, when frontman Faber brought his band's CD to the stati...
