April 10th, 2014 9:00pm EDT
kelly clarkson
Once known as the show that could instantly make you a star, "American Idol" has suffered lackluster ratings and has had as many "Idols" fail as succeed. Still, the winners that America voted for have not always stayed within the realm of music, some have spread their wings to the acting world as well. Some of the more popular winners are still in the spotlight, some have faded into obscurity, Here is the latest on what many of your favorite "American Idol" winners have been up to since winning.

'American Idol' Recap: Was This The Most Boring Finale Ever?

May 25th, 2011 9:35am EDT
Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery
The most boring finalists ever. That seemed to be the conventional wisdom going into the evening. That, despite a strong start, this season of ‘Idol’ was destined to fall into oblivion with two dull finalists that wouldn’t be able to deliver the finale this Renaissance season deserved.

Yes, that might be true. It may have been more interesting to see James square off against Pia or Jacob take on Haley, but that doesn’t necessarily mean this is the most boring collection of contestants ever, does it?

Here’s a ranking of finale pairings from least boring to most boring:

9 (Least Boring): S...

A New Year cruise ferrying fans of "American Idol" star Taylor Hicks and funk icon Maceo Parker from Florida to the Caribbean and back has returned after a drug raid.

Reports suggest federal drug agents stormed the ship just before it was due to set sail last week - with guests looking forward to high seas concerts by Hicks, Parker, the Grateful Dead's Bob Weir and the Robert Randolph Band.

The authorities seized illegal drugs, including Ecstasy and LSD, and arrested several revellers, who did not make the voyage.

The Jam Cruise left port following the raids and returned on Monday, acco...

'American Idol' - A History Of Never Getting It Right

May 27th, 2010 3:50pm EDT
Lee DeWyze
Last night’s American Idol finale brought exciting performances from veteran acts, visits from past contestants and of course, an awkward speech from Paula Abdul. The night also brought about a new idol in Lee DeWyze but his victory over Crystal Bowersox begs the question, did American Idol crown the right contestant last night?

Of course, the answer to that question is largely subjective but Bowersox did appear to be the season’s favorite. Simon Cowell, in all of his omnipotence, said early in the season that Bowersox was the one to beat. Not too long after that episode, Cowell even went ...

'American Idol' Grand Finale Mega-Diary 2010

May 27th, 2010 9:14am EDT
Lee Dewyze
It’s mega-diary time once again, kids. A time to give the blow-by-blow, the play-by-play of the most important events in pop culture.

The only question is whether or not this is the last time the “American Idol” finale warrants such treatment. The mega-diary is reserved for TV events like The Oscars and The Emmys (and by all rights The Super Bowl if lack of sobriety didn’t prevent cataloging that evening), but I’m not sure how much longer “Idol” is going to fit.

With Simon’s departure and dwindling ratings, this night next year could be on a part with the season finale of “Survivor” or ...

American Idol Lee DeWyze
The ninth season has officially come to a close, with Lee DeWyze taking home the title of the next "American Idol."

It was only the second time in the show's history where neither of the final two contestants - DeWyze and runner up Crystal Bowersox - had ever finished in the bottom two or bottom three with viewer votes. The other two to accomplish the feat were Season 7 winner David Cook and runner up David Archuleta. Former winners Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Hicks, Jordin Sparks and Cook never landed in the bottom three with viewer votes either.

Speaking of viewer votes, th...

The Ten Greatest Of The Decade: TV Shows

December 14th, 2009 9:30am EST
Best TV Of The Decade
As the decade reaches its conclusion, you'll undoubtedly come across many lists. Lists that purport to tell you the best, the top, the cream of the decade as they relate to pop culture. You're also certain to come across many lists that claim to rank the "greatest" of the ten year period from 2000-2009. But what does that really mean?

"Greatest" should be something entirely different from what we usually associate with these lists. Mostly, these lists claim to rank the best - something that is only truly possible were a listmaker to, say, see every single movie in a given decade. If...

'American Idol' Needs a Revamp... Now!

American Idol
With the recent news that Paula Abdul will not be returning for American Idol's ninth season, the timing seems perfect for the show to reinvent itself, and recapture the magic that has been steadily dwindling since it premiered nearly a decade ago. Though ratings remain high, viewership is decreasing, a problem that the show tried to address by adding a new judge at the start of the eighth season. Unfortunately, what "American Idol" needs is not a mere shuffling of parts, or replacement of personality. The show needs to restructure its format, and realize that the problem is an over-saturat...

'Idol' Recap: Matt Gets The Boot & Kris Could Steal The Win From Adam

Simon Cowell started the American Idol results show by saying how great everyone was and how wide open the competition is this year. He couldn't be more correct. That's why we saw Adam, the favorite all year, nearly exit the stage while the previously ousted Matt Giraud (who I've been calling the most talented competitor all year) got the cruelest boot.

In fact, there were two favorites in the bottom three this week. Probably the two most likely to win the entire competition had to sweat the longest last night. And at this point, it wasn't that much of surprise with the depth remai...
