Cee Lo Green is planning a major slim down following the recent deaths of pals Heavy D and comedian Patrice O'Neal.

The hitmaker accepts he's overweight and the sudden deaths have shocked him into considering a major image makeover - for the sake of his son.

He tells Rolling Stone magazine, "I want to be healthy. I lost a few really good friends... I lost my friend Heavy D recently, and I was friends with Patrice O'Neal... I'm looking at them and noticing the similarities.

Veteran rap icon Heavy D died as a result of a blocked artery in his lungs, a coroner has ruled.

The heavyweight hip-hop star, real name Dwight Arrington Myers, passed away on 8 November after collapsing outside his home in Beverly Hills, California. He was 44.

An autopsy performed by the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office has now identified the cause of death as a pulmonary embolism caused by deep leg vein thrombosis, a blood clot condition which can occur during long haul flights.

Mary J. Blige and Sean 'Diddy' Combs are expected to be among the mourners when rapper Heavy D is laid to rest in New York next week.

A private funeral has been planned for the 44 year old who died on Tuesday. There will be a public viewing of the rap star's body for fans on November 17, according to reports.

The hip-hop star, real name Dwight Arrington Myers, was found unconscious outside his home in Beverly Hills, California on Tuesday. He was pronounced dead at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles an hour later.

There were no obvious signs of foul play.

Legendary rapper Heavy D has died at the age of 44.

The popular MC, real name Dwight Arrington Myers, was admitted to a Los Angeles hospital at around noon local time on Tuesday with a mystery ailment. He was pronounced dead at 1pm.

The hip-hop star rose to fame in the late 1980s with his group Heavy D & the Boyz after they released their debut album, "Living Large," in 1987. They went on to record the theme tune for hit U.S. TV show In Living Color before Heavy D branched out as a solo act.
