Rocker Axl Rose has been voted the best frontman of all time, ahead of stars including Freddie Mercury and John Lennon.

The Guns N' Roses singer gained the most votes to take the top spot in a poll, fighting off competition from Queen star Mercury, who landed in second place.

Led Zeppelin icon Robert Plant came in third place, while Ronnie James Dio - who passed away earlier this year - claimed the fourth spot as the frontman of Black Sabbath and Heaven & Hell. Beatles legend Lennon rounded out the top five.

Late rocker Ronnie James Dio is to be honored in Bulgaria - a statue of the Heaven & Hell star will be unveiled in a Kavarna park.

Town Mayor Tzonko Tzonev led the charge to pay tribute to Dio as a mark of respect to the rock star, who became one of Bulgaria's top concert draws - and was instrumental in campaigning for the liberation of a group of the nation's nurses imprisoned in Libya.

Rockers Kiss took a moment to "remember" late heavy metal legend Ronnie James Dio during a concert in Geneva, Switzerland on Monday, leading fans in a 30-second chant of the singer's name.

Frontman Paul Stanley halted the show to pay his respects, and told fans, "Let's remember to remember him. Let's make sure he can hear us up there." Stanley then led the chant, "Ronnie, Ronnie..." before adding, "We love ya, we'll miss ya."

Heavy metal rocker Ronnie James Dio has lost his battle with stomach cancer. He was 67.

The Heaven & Hell star passed away at a hospital in Houston, Texas on Sunday.

His wife Wendy initially denied internet reports the rocker had died earlier in the day, but revealed he was "not doing good" - and now his partner admits she is heartbroken over the loss of her beloved husband.

Motorhead star Lemmy and Judas Priest's Rob Halford are to be honored with top prizes at the second annual Revolver Golden Gods Awards in April. Ace of Spades singer Lemmy will be the 2010 recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award, while fellow Brit Halford will take home the event's Golden God Award.
