December 11th, 2012 8:57pm EST
Rush
Finally! Canadian progressive rock gods Rush are heading to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The prolific trio -- bassist/singer Geddy Lee, guitarist Alex Lifeson and drummer/lyricist Neil Peart -- formed in 1968 and released their self-titled debut album in 1974. They never broke up, save for a five year hiatus beginning in the late 1990s; and just released their 19th studio album, "Clockwork Angels", earlier this year to rave reviews.

The band made it in on their first try; but one would never know that after the yearly outpouring of disdain for the institution by fans after repeated snu...

Conventions or Concerts?

The month of August brought the U.S. two big music festivals, one in Denver and one in the Twin Cities. Oh, wait, what's that you say? These weren't music festivals, but the Democratic and Republican National Conventions? Interesting. In the past, presidential candidates have used music as part of their campaigns, but never before like this. This summer, the 2008 Democratic and Republican National Conventions crossed politics and music so much that they rose to concert-like levels.

Obamapalooza, err, I mean the DNC featured performances by Melissa Ether...

Can Guitar Hero Top Itself?

April 10th, 2008 2:30pm EDT
Guitar Hero
When the first Guitar Hero was released for the Playstation 2 in November 2005, it was met with both critical acclaim and a lot of buzz: a video game that substituted a simulated guitar for the standard controller? Why, it was unheard of! The game sold a modest 1.5 million copies and was popular enough to launch an entire franchise that has only gotten better with time.

Take, for example, the setlists. The original game, with a mere 47 songs, was composed of almost entirely cover versions. Guitar Hero II, on the other hand, contained 64 songs, four of which were actually recorded by th...

A Man's Point Of View: Top 10 Songs Sung By Women In The Rock Era

Janis Joplin
To clarify what the "Rock Era" means, there will be no Etta James, Billie Holiday, or Patsy Cline on this list. Basically, it contains the most moving and powerful songs with female vocalists from the 1960s to the present. Now, before you go calling us guys sexist, it's just a simple fact that men, on average, have less female-centered albums in their collections. Try an informal poll of your own, and you're likely to have the same results.

Why, you may ask? Sometimes it's because dudes don't want to have their man card revoked for owning a Lilith Fair compilation. But there is a...
