January 31st, 2012 9:57am EST
Sammy Hagar
Rocker Sammy Hagar has blasted his former Van Halen band mates' comeback album, revealing it left him cold and unimpressed when he heard it.

The band's former frontman was not asked to be part of the group's 2012 plans and now he's glad he missed out because he's convinced the band's February album will leave fans feeling cheated.

He tells Radio Metal, "What I've heard so far, I wasn't impressed with at all, personally... I think they chose to take the easy route and take some of their old stuff and re-record it instead of writing new songs... I don't think the fans are going to be happ...

In November the band reportedly signed on with legendary producer Jimmy Iovine's label Interscope Records, with news of a potential tour and new album (along with a hefty merchandising deal), and on Monday VH sent out an official announcement via their website.

The message is simple and to the point - a mix of classic hits "Jump," "Panama," and "Hot For Teacher" with images of the band rehearsing starts playing, and a ticker at the bottom announces the 2012 tour. Tickets begin going on sale January 10th (actual...

He says, "I'm so disappointed in those guys. I'm not even angry. I'm just disappointed. I really don't like them anymore, and I can't tell you how sad it is to me that what we had as creative guys, and as a friendship, how it...

Rocker Gregg Allman is set to tell all about his colorful life in an autobiography.

The Allman Brothers Band star, who was married to Cher in the 1970s, has signed a book deal with bosses at William Morrow, part of HarperCollins Publishers.

The memoir is said to be an "unflinching" look at his brother and bandmate Duane's death from a motorcycle accident in the 1970s, Allman's substance abuse issues and his relationship with Cher.

May 18th, 2011 1:00pm EDT
James Durbin and Adam Lambert
Once again we have some juicy celebrity feuds, but this week we have no cat fights! First up we have a war of words between American Idol cast-offs Adam Lambert and James Durbin.

"I think he’s got talent and passion 100 percent," Lambert told the Hollywood Reporter about Durbin, "but I feel like he’s trying way too hard. Also, his niche is so limited with the metal. When he did that 'Heavy Metal' [Sammy Hagar] song, James was note-perfect. He was on pitch, which is usually kind of an issue, and I think he sounded really good, but it felt like a copycat. I didn’t feel like I was seeing an...

He tells Forbes magazine, "I was asked at one time to be in Motley Crue. I was asked at one time to be in Pantera by their managers. I was asked to be in Velvet Revolver when Scott Weiland quit."

'American Idol' Recap: The Contestants (& Judges) Disappoint On Movie Night

April 14th, 2011 8:10am EDT
American Idol
I just couldn’t wait to see how they did.

For once, I’m not talking about the contestants. Last night it was the judges’ performance that had me most anxious for the show to begin. After Pia’s exit, they’d been taking a ton of flak from myself and endless other ‘ American Idol’ recappers saying it was finally time for them to toughen up.

And this was the perfect night to test. After weeks and weeks of solid performances all down the line, last night we got our first really consistently bad night from the contestants. A night that totally blew out my restrictive theme theory – because last...

Rocker Duff McKagan is beginning to worry about the possibility of Guns N' Roses landing a Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction spot in 2012 because he doesn't want the honor to become a debacle as warring bandmates attempt to unite in public.

The rockers become eligible for the hall next year, and the band's ex-bass player fears a repeat of what happened when he was there to induct Van Halen into the fabled museum in 2007, and only former members Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony showed up.

McKagan tells, "I think it's a real 'cross-that-bridge-when-you-come-to-it' kind of thi...

In his new book, Red: My Uncensored Life in Rock, Hagar reveals he was studied by extra-terrestrials after they made contact with him in the foothills of California, and now he's talking about the encounter for the first time.

Hagar tells MTV, "It was real. Aliens were plugged into me. It was a download situation. This was long before computers or any kind of wireless. There weren't even wireless telephones.

"Looking back now, it was like, 'F---, they downloaded something into me!' Or they uploaded something fr...

March 11th, 2011 8:40am EST
Sammy Hagar
Rocker Sammy Hagar was shocked to see one-time bandmate Eddie Van Halen when the pair attempted an ill-fated reunion in 2004 because the guitar great had turned into a black-toothed, unwashed tramp who lived in squalor.

Hagar agreed to meet with Van Halen at his Malibu, California, home after he had divorced actress Valerie Bertinelli and before he was diagnosed with cancer of the tongue - and he admits it was sobering to see his former pal living like a dog.

In his new biography, Red, the rocker recalls, "It looked like vampires lived there. There were bottles and cans all over the place...

He tells, "The funny thing is that everyone who quits the band always claims they got fired by me. Hey, I'm not the bad guy here. When (Sammy) Hagar left the band, Mike (Michael Antho...

Concert Review - Van Halen: The Reunion That No One Bet On

February 19th, 2008 11:44am EST
Van Halen
2/10/08 at Philips Arena, Atlanta, GA

They say all good things must pass. David Lee Roth was out. Sammy Hagar took over. Then it was Gary Cherone for an eye blink. In 2008, that guy that Eddie Van Halen couldn't stand is now back in front. DLR in all his three-ring circus glory is back. Is this a good thing? Will it last? Will they avoid killing each other? Whatever your opinion, this was the near-original Van Halen lineup. The one asterisk would be the absence of bassist Michael Anthony. Recently fired, Anthony's bass was picked up by 16-year old Wolfgang Van Halen, son of ...
