The Learning Curve: Grunge, Dark Vibes And More

April 7th, 2009 12:43pm EDT
The Art of Dying
We have lots of diversity on this week's 'Learning Curve'. Tune in and check them out.

The Art of Dying

Hail from: Vancouver, BC, Canada

Label: None

Sounds like: Seether, Taproot, Evans Blue

You should be listening to: 'Self Titled' LP

LISTEN TO THEM

I Should Care Why?: The world needs more bands like the Art of Dying and I'll tell you why. They aren't some whiny teenage Disney star who thinks they can sing, and they aren't emo. They are honest, that much is evident by listening to just one of their tracks (I recommend 'You Don't Know Me'). You would think that t...

The Learning Curve: International Flavor Includes Tokio Hotel, 4LYN And More

Tokio Hotel
(The Learning Curve) I thought this week we would change things up a little bit. Here is the first International In the Shadows article. There are more to come, but people always seem to be remembering the first the fondest, even if you aren't multi-lingual.

Right out of the gates we have some of the heavier hitters from overseas, as Germany, New Zealand, Japan and Malaysia are all represented by some fantastic bands.

4LYN and the soon to be your favorite band Tokio Hotel hit US shores straight from Germany, Pop Shuvit want you to notice them coming straight out of Kuala Lumpur ...

It's All In The Name: Current Music Acts With The Worst Names

June 12th, 2008 1:47pm EDT
The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus

HIM

The Goth Rock band HIM strangely carries a name that has long been traditionally regarded as a religious associative term. Plus, finding the band on some music search engines is still like trying to find a needle in a haystack.

Guyliner: Hot Or Not? You Decide

February 21st, 2008 12:00pm EST
Marilyn Manson
It may be an anomaly, but there are some men in the entertainment biz today who won't go anywhere without their guyliner. We can't help but notice that out of the few to publicly don make-up, the ones who wear it so well make the guyliner quotient go up big time! There are also some guyliner looks that are just not making the grade. Let us know what you think!

Jared Leto

Leto, who graduated straight from his acting stint on "My So-Called Life" to lead band man for alternative rockers 30 Second To Mars, looks as if he never leaves home without his guyliner on.

Papa Roach
In 1933, oil heiress Daisy Canfield was on her way home from a party when her car veered off a Mulholland Drive cliff, plummeting 300 feet and instantly killing the wife of silent movie star Antonio Moreno. In the decades that followed, the couple's 14-bedroom Hollywood Hills estate would see time as a school for girls, then a convent before falling into disrepair, later being devastated by a 1987 earthquake. Born again more than a decade later, the renovated mansion has served as a recording studio for the likes of H.I.M. and Gwen Stefani, and recently hosted television's "Rock Star" reali...
