Thoughts On The 56th Annual Grammy Nominations

December 9th, 2013 8:50pm EST
Macklemore & Ryan Lewis
The Grammys are like a musician’s Super Bowl, even if the nominations and victorious artists are flawed.  I won’t lie to you, I complain every year that someone won a Grammy that didn’t deserve it while someone else was snubbed. Just last year, during the 55th Annual Grammys, I lobbied hard for Frank Ocean (looking back, I have reservations now) while Mumford & Sons walked out with the Album of the Year trophy.  The year that Taylor Swift won for Fearless, my girl Beyoncé was on a roll until the coveted Album of the Year award was read.  You get my position though! This year,  I find myself...

The new disc is the first ablum from the band in nearly 14 years, and Green says it's well worth the wait.

Yvette Nicole Brown tries on his huge amount of fabric, letting it just wrinkle and fold over everywhere.

Zoe Hardman ups the ante with an entire dress with the pa...

Aguilera stated that she doesn't like to sit too close to the not-so funky fresh star when they make appearances together.

She told DeGeneres, "(I'm sitting) between Blake and Cee Lo with his gas over there...That's why I have the fan, you know."

Afraid she may have upset her pal, Aguilera quickly laughed off her comment and added, "I love you Cee Lo. Don't be mad. Everybody knows."

October 24th, 2012 9:00am EDT
Battle Rounds - Adriana Louise vs Jordan Pruitt
There's one last night of battles on The Voice, and just one steal left, which belongs to Christina Aguilera. This is crunch time...for this phase of the top-rated singing competition, anyway. So let's get right to it, shall we?

Tuesday night begins with Christina's team, specifically Adriana Louise and Jordan Pruitt, who get handed Katy Perry's "Hot and Cold." Jordan confides that she's surprised to see advisor Billie Joe Armstrong because he's so different from Christina. Billie Joe instantly picks up on Jordan's "professional" side, while Christina thinks Adriana is "holding ...

'The Voice' Recap: Season 3 Battle Rounds, Part 5

October 23rd, 2012 9:00am EDT
The Voice
It's a new week of battle rounds on The Voice, with only two steals left to save hopeful artists who don't win their head-to-head matchups.

A shortened Monday night show - just one hour instead of two - opens with Team Cee Lo: it's Alexis Marceaux versus another returning singer, Daniel Rosa. Cee Lo has given them Adam Lambert's "Whataya Want From Me," which Nakia performed in season one, and he knocked it out of the park back then, so these two have no small quest in front of them. Advisor Rob Thomas cautions Alexis to relax on her diction, and notes Daniel's "confidence issues." ...

'The Voice' Recap: Season 3 Battle Rounds, Part 4

October 17th, 2012 9:05am EDT
Battle Rounds Liz Davis, Nicole Johnson
Things are getting thorny in the battle rounds on The Voice, as with only three steals left in play after last night's episode (two for Christina and one for Blake), it's soon to be back to "win or go home" for the artists. Not to mention: are any more battles going to be truncated for time like they were last Tuesday night?

This Tuesday night opens with Team Blake, as Liz Davis is matched with Nicole Johnson on a song that Blake knows well - his wife Miranda Lambert's hit "Baggage Claim." It's amusing to watch Blake quip that he's "met [Miranda] once or twice." Team Blake mentor Mich...

'The Voice' Recap: Season 3 Battle Rounds, Part 2

October 10th, 2012 9:00am EDT
The Voice
Picking up from last night's action, The Voice returns Tuesday with another set of battle rounds. After stretching six battles over last night's two-hour show, we get five jam-packed into this one-hour episode: three full duets and snippets from two more.

Team Cee Lo starts the evening, as Cody Belew takes on Domo, to the tune of Lady Gaga's "Telephone." Cee Lo thinks the song will allow them to do both singing and choreography at the same time, and therefore he can see which of them is "the total package." Advisor Rob Thomas gives Cody some pointers while Domo's conversation with...

'The Voice' Recap: Season 3 Battle Rounds, Part 1

October 9th, 2012 9:00am EDT
The Voice Battle Rounds
With the Top 64 chosen, now it's time to get into competition on The Voice. With the addition of "The Steal" this year, it's going to be messier than ever before, too. Let's go to battle!

Tonight we open with Blake and his advisor Michael Buble, who quips, "Million bucks says they don't know me." Yeah, right, Michael. It's Team Blake's Casey Muessigmann and Terry McDermott who are going to head-to-head first (note the Street Fighter style graphics that are new this season!) Blake's reasoning for putting them together is that they're both "loud, powerful" dudes who auditioned with c...

'The Voice' Recap: Season 3 Blind Auditions, Part 8 and the "Best Of"

October 3rd, 2012 9:00am EDT
The Voice
We're a quarter of the way through Season 3! Monday night was the final evening of blind auditions on The Voice, with each of the coaches looking for two more singers to fill out their sixteen-member teams.

With things winding down, things are really being edited to be as dramatic as possible. We have Adam's "you're the best singer we've ever had" soundbite in the opening package, when we know that he really said Gracia Harrison was the best country singer the show has ever seen. Then there's Cee Lo saying he believes that the winner will come from Team Red Zone - if he'd said anyt...

'The Voice' Recap: Season 3 Blind Auditions. Part 7

September 26th, 2012 9:00am EDT
The Voice
As we head toward the finish of blind auditions, Tuesday proved to be a big day for The Voice. Against stiff competition, The Voice had less overall viewers than ABC's Dancing With The Stars (11.93 to 14.58), but won the coveted 18-49 demographic - and an expected renewal for seasons four and five from NBC. (This isn't really news given that the announcement of coach changes referenced both seasons four and five. But it's nice to hear formally.) So what's the show going to do on such a busy night? Continue filling out the teams, of course!

With very few spots left - two on Team Adam, ...

'The Voice' Recap: Season 3 Blind Auditions, Part 6

September 25th, 2012 9:00am EDT
The Voice
We're into our third week of Season 3 blind auditions on The Voice, and three weeks could be too much. We're averaging one audition per each segment of the show, which seems to be stretching as far as we can go. Despite the pacing, there are some pretty talented folks - and one old friend - in Monday's batch of hopefuls.

Catching up from last week, Team Adam has 11 members so far, Team Blake has 7, Team Cee Lo has 10, and Team Christina has 11. And, in case you missed it last night, The Voice went home empty-handed at the Emmys, losing Outstanding Reality Series to The Amazing Ra...

September 18th, 2012 5:15am EDT
Christina Aguilera
Putting an end to recent media speculation, NBC has confirmed via press release that two of The Voice's coaches will be leaving following the currently-airing Season 3 - but that both are anticipated to return to the show in the future.

Christina Aguilera and Cee Lo Green will not participate in Season 4 of the show, which is expected to air in Spring 2013, in order to resume their music careers.

Aguilera was quoted in the release as saying, "Since this year NBC and The Voice have decided to tape back-to-back seasons, requiring a full-year commitment, it is important for me to take sea...

'The Voice' News Roundup: 'Voice' Beats X Factor, Plus New Interviews With Season 3's Artists

September 13th, 2012 2:39pm EDT
The Voice
Right now, this picture is accurate. NBC may have been criticized for clearly counter-programming The Voice against rival The X Factor, but the Peacock got the last laugh as Voice beat Factor in the shows' first head-to-head battle this season. In last night's 8-9 PM hour, Voice delivered 10.66 million viewers to Factor's 7.45.

The X Factor was also defeated in its second hour by the finale of NBC's America's Got Talent, which earned just over 11 million viewers to the 9.49 of Factor.

However, 9.49 is still an impressive amount of viewers that any broadcast network would be happy to hav...
