Macy Gray Offended By Clive Davis Request

Singer Macy Gray was offended when music mogul Clive Davis asked her to record an audition tape after selling millions of albums. Gray, 39, left Sony Records in 2004 after lackluster sales of her third album The Trouble With Being Myself, although her debut disc On How Life Is had sold three million copies in the US.

Gray quickly looked around for a new record deal and approached J Records head Davis, who also acts as Chairman and CEO of BMG North America.

She says, "I had it in my head, 'I'm Macy Gray, everyone's going to be banging on my door,' and that didn't happen at all.

Macy Gray finds it discomforting meeting her fans sometimes, because the singer knows she is completely different to what people expect her to be like. The star admits she has no idea what her public persona is any more.

She says, "Perception is interesting as it overrides the reality of how you really are. I'm never like people imagine me to be but, saying that, I'm at a point where I don't really know how people perceive me any more. I'm not wild or crazy, I'm just honest."

R&B star Macy Gray found herself in trouble with the authorities in Barbados after swearing during a show there on Wednesday. The raspy-voiced singer was reportedly almost arrested for uttering "mother-" onstage at the Barbados Jazz Festival because public profanity is against the law there.

After realizing her mistake, the foul-mouthed singer apologized to police chiefs and was allowed to leave the island with a stern warning.

Rap mogul Damon Dash is planning to mark the second anniversary of tragic Ol' Dirty Bastard's death on November 7 by releasing the Wu-Tang Clan star's long-awaited final album. Dash will release “A Son Unique” through his Roc-a-Fella Records imprint after making a big splash back in 2003 by signing ODB, real name Russell Jones, following his release from jail.

The album, produced by the rapper's Wu-Tang Clan bandmate RZA, features collaborations with Missy Elliott, Pharrell Williams and Macy Gray, among others.

Black Eyed Peas star Will.I.Am is starting off the New Year with his own record label.

The "Pump It" hitmaker will officially launch the will.i.am music group with Brazilian salsa great Sergio Mendes' new album, Timeless, on Valentine's Day.
