Jimi Hendrix
"The 27s: The Greatest Myth of Rock & Roll," which comes out today, reveals that more rock stars have died at 27 than at any other age.

Famous 27s include Kurt Cobain, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Jim Morrison, Rolling Stones founder Brian Jones, and members of The Gits, Big Star, Badfinger, Grateful Dead, Minutemen, The Stooges, Echo & the Bunnymen, The Mars Volta, American Head Charge, Manic Street Preachers, and many more.

Starpulse broke the story late last year that Amy Winehouse is terrified of joining the 27 Club and Britney Spears is too, according to author and journalist ...

Two New Grateful Dead Music Collections Out April 7

Grateful Dead
Pinpointing the creative zenith of the Grateful Dead's career would be a challenge fit for even Sisyphus. That said, one could do a lot worse than looking to the fabled spring tour of 1977, long considered by Dead Heads as the very best. During a remarkable 26 shows in 37 days, the Dead played with unparalleled energy, wit, passion and power -- a band at the very top of its game. The tour ended on a euphoric note May 28 at the Hartford Civic Center in Connecticut, where the band previewed several tracks from its soon-to-be-released ninth studio album Terrapin Station.

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Phish is kicking off its reunion tour with a lawsuit against bootleggers in Virginia and across the country.

The Vermont-based rock band, which developed a cult following over two decades before splitting up, will perform for the first time since 2004 on Friday night at the Hampton Coliseum in southeastern Virginia. But first, the foursome will ask a judge to block the sale of bootleg T-shirts, posters and other merchandise at its upcoming concerts. Grateful Dead Alums Plan First Tour In 5 Years

1/3/2009 9:00am EST
Grateful Dead
LOS ANGELES (AP) — It looks like the old Dead are gettin' on. Surviving members of the Grateful Dead say they'll regroup for a 19-city tour, their first since 2004, beginning April 12 in Greensboro, N.C.

The group, which now just calls itself The Dead, announced its plans Thursday.

Original band members Bob Weir, Phil Lesh, Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann have toured sporadically since the 1995 death of guitarist Jerry Garcia, but struggled to get along personally and artistically. They told Rolling Stone in November that they've worked out their differences, aided by a successful...

Overrated & Underrated Pop Duets

10/3/2008 10:11am EDT
Paul McCartney/Stevie Wonder
Sometimes one just ain't enough.

That's a line, okay an amended line, from the rarest of rock treats - the duet. Everyone loves when two pop icons team up for a single. It's just like those rare occasions when two solo wrestlers join forces for a super tag-team.

Just like its brethren in the WWE the results for pop duets are often much less than the sum of their parts. Still, each duet holds a special spot, or two, in the minds of music fans.

So it's easy to say that all duets are overrated isn't it? Well, that would be the case if it weren't for the fact that so many gr...

Something is wrong though; something keeps persistently gnawing at your emotions of regret until you realize that, as a fan of Rock and Roll, there were too many missed opportunities throughout your life. Too many nights, watching concerts from the latest fad, instead of seeing the true greats of arena history. Goofy Rock Names

There are lots of bizarre, random band names in the history of rock and roll, like the Strawberry Alarm Clock, the Smashing Pumpkins, and the Electric Prunes, and it may have been a little embarrassing to say "I'm a member of The Electric Prunes." But, would you be willing to say, "I am the Electric Prune?"

Here at Starpulse, we would like to pay tribute to the individuals who have the courage to sign his/her checks, or introduce him/herself at a parent teacher conference with one of the below listed names.

Defining Greatness: The One-Hit Wonder Scale

2/26/2008 11:14am EST
Vanilla Ice
Probably the most underrated term in the music industry is the "One Hit Wonder." Popularized in the 80s, one hit wonders are either regarded as artists with one hit (like Deee-Lite’s "Groove is in the Heart"), or artists who produced a song that everybody knows (like "Turning Japanese" by The Vapors).

However, the truth of the matter is that one hit wonders actually come in many shapes and sizes. There are hits that are huge one day and laughable the next, there are hits that are mildly spectacular at first but ultimately propel the careers of the artists who recorded them, and there a...
