Keith Urban recruits all-star pals for benefit concert

Country singer Keith Urban has compiled a star-studded line-up of famous friends, including Carrie Underwood and Reba Mcentire, for his upcoming Country Music Hall of Fame benefit.

The You'll Think Of Me hitmaker and veteran musician Vince Gill are serving as co-musical directors for the fifth annual All 4 the Hall Benefit Concert, which takes place on 6 May (14) in America's country music capital, Nashville, Tennessee.

Taking the Bridgestone Arena stage will be artists such as Brantley Gilbert, Deana Carter, Kacey Musgraves, Lee Ann Womack, Mary Chapin Carpenter and Ronnie Milsap.

Country music star Vince Gill is set to become a first-time grandfather.

The singer's daughter, Jenny Gill, and her husband Josh Van Valkenburg have announced they are expecting their first child.

Jenny, who is also a singer like her famous father, took to to announce the good news, revealing she is due this August (14).

She is the only child of Vince and his first wife, Janis Oliver.

Vince, 56, also has a 13-year-old daughter with his wife of 14 years, singer Amy Grant.

The group was protesting outside his concert in Kansas City, Missouri, on Sunday when they filmed the singer taking issue with their stance.

Star Trek icon William Shatner has collaborated with country music star Vince Gill, Foreigner's Mick Jones and guitarist Steve Vai for a new prog-rock album.

The acting veteran penned the lyrics for all the songs on the upcoming concept album, Ponder The Mystery, which explores themes such as "ageing, depression, love and beauty", according to a press release.

Shatner describes the album as "quite possibly the most creative thing I have ever done".

Ponder The Mystery is due out on 8 October (13).

Comedian Steve Martin is returning to the show that helped launch his career, to promote his new project - an album of bluegrass songs.

The actor will showcase tracks from The Crow: New Songs for the Five-String Banjo on Saturday Night Live on January 31, 33 years after he made his debut on the comedy program.

The album includes cameos by Dolly Parton, Vince Gill and Martin's one-time SNL co-star Eugene Levy. It hits stores on January 27.

Singer Carrie Underwood is the newest member of the Grand Ole Opry after joining the country music mecca this weekend.

Underwood, 25, was formally inducted into the cast of the long-running music show on Saturday, when she was presented with an induction award - a 14-inch bronze replica of an Opry mic stand from fellow Opry member Garth Brooks. She also sang a duet with country star Vince Gill.
