| Garbage Trip Release Date: 1996 04 07 Label: Moonraker Rating: ![]() |
In the 1990s, one bootleg label that could often been counted on for superb sound quality was Moonraker. Providing first-class soundboard recordings and lavish artwork, Moonraker developed a loyal following in the underground market. Both the sound quality and the artwork are excellent on The Trip, which finds Garbage playing at the Philipshalle in Dortmund, Germany on April 7, 1996. The Trip won't convert anyone who isn't already a fan of the alternative rockers' self-titled debut album of 1995, but those who savored that delightfully trashy effort will find this performance generally enjoyable. Lead singer Shirley Manson had perfected her sexy, punky vixen image, and she has a lot of fun playing it to the hilt on familiar songs like "Supervixen," "Stupid Girl," "Only Happy When It Rains," "Vow" and "Not My Idea." On a few songs, Garbage could have been a little less clean-sounding -- it's best for Manson & Co. to simply dig in and let it rip. But despite sounding overly polished at times, The Trip contains an exhilarating set from a band that is as distinctive as it is entertaining. Alex Henderson, All Music Guide
