10 Great Face Songs

11/15/2015 1:30pm EST
Face The Music: 10 Great Face Songs
Over the years, it’s amazing how many songs that have been written and became hits that share commonly used words in within their titles. Love may be oversaturated and cliché, but doesn’t society relate and embrace such songs featuring the word and central theme? Think of the colors and how many times they’ve fueled music’s flavor of the month/year throughout history. As simple as a commonly used word may be, it can be the catalyst for truly great music. In the case of this list, here are 10 great face songs. Why? – because all of the songs use the word face within their title. See, it’s as...

Selena Gomez Fends Off The Game For Top Spot

10/20/2015 10:19am EDT
Selena Gomez Takes ‘Revival’ To No. 1 On The Billboard 200
Selena Gomez did it once again – debut in the number one spot on the Billboard 200. Enough folks were ‘revived’ by Gomez’s Revival to propel the pop artist’s fifth album overall (second solo album) to the penthouse. Overall, Revival impacted to the tune of 117,000 units, which is respectable. That said, only about 73% of that total (85,000 copies) is sales excluding streaming and tracks. Previous album Stars Dance was a stronger seller.

Even with Gomez padding her totals with streaming and tracks, Gomez would’ve still edged the other frontrunner for the top spot, The Game. The Game still...

Fetty Wap Has Arrived, How Does His Debut Album Stack Up?

9/30/2015 11:30am EDT
Review: Fetty Wap Shows Promise On Self-Titled Debut Album
Perhaps had Future not arrived before him, the views on rap newcomer Fetty Wap would be different. Future and Fetty Wap aren’t “one and the same,” but there are some clear similarities. Both rappers incorporate more pitch into their respective flows, at times nearly sounding like singers as opposed to rappers. This was off-putting about Future early in his career, but he’s definitely grown on the detractors. This quasi-rap/sung approach is definitely part of the allure of Fetty Wap. His debut album Fetty Wap isn’t ‘the second coming’ by any means, but there’s clearly something there with...

Drake And Future Take Top Honors

9/29/2015 9:02am EDT
Drake And Future Take ‘What A Time To Be Alive’ To No. 1
Lana Del Rey could practically taste her second no. 1 album – that is until Drake and Future totally ‘killed her vibe’ with surprise mixtape, What A Time To Be Alive. Expectedly, the superstar hip-hop collaboration was too much for the moody, alt-pop singer to overcome. In other words, her Honeymoon in the ‘penthouse’ wasn’t meant to be. Okay, okay, enough puns!

Drake and Future took top honors on the Billboard 200, to the tune of 375,000 units – WOW! This doesn’t outpace Drake’s earlier no. 1 album If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late or the juggernaut that was The Weeknd’s Beauty Behin...

How Good Is Drake And Future’s Collaboration 'What A Time To Be Alive'?

9/28/2015 11:30am EDT
Six Takeaways From Drake And Future’s ‘What A Time To Be Alive’
On Sunday, September 21, Drake and Future gave the music industry a gift – a collaborative mixtape. Two of the biggest triumphs in 2015 have come at the hands of Drake and Future. Future’s DS2 didn’t come anywhere close to Drake’s numbers with If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late, but the rapper had the biggest debut of his career and scored his first number one album. Furthermore with their respective albums, the two MCs have had some staying power on the charts. This makes a collaborative mixtape something of a godsend, hence the gargantuan numbers.

Rather than your standard album...

New Albums To Check Out This Week

9/22/2015 12:52pm EDT
Drake And Future's Joint Album Lead Albums To Check Out
The final release week of September is upon us! There are some goodies to check out this week, much like last week’s star-studded releases. Originally a solid week for new releases, a surprise joint album from Drake and Future made the week a stellar one. Unsurprisingly, the Drake/Future collaboration leads albums to check out. Anticipated debut and sophomore albums, in addition to comeback album of a rock veteran, join the collaborative album as albums to check out.

1) Drake & Future, What A Time To Be Alive

An off-cycle album release completely changed the tides. Drake and Futur...

The Weeknd Keeps Top Spot For Third Week

9/22/2015 11:50am EDT
The Weeknd Makes It Three Weeks At No. 1 On Billboard
For a third consecutive week, The Weeknd keeps the top spot on the Billboard 200 piping hot. Well, perhaps the 99,000 units that Beauty Behind The Music moved this week isn’t ‘the second coming’ but The Weeknd definitely has a good thing going for him. Three weeks in, Beauty Behind The Madness has moved around 655,000 units. Pure sales are less robust eliminating streaming and tracking from the formula, but still Beauty Behind The Madness is putting up some sales numbers as well – impressive!

Not only is The Weeknd getting it done on the Billboard 200, but also he is equally hot on the...

14 Notable Songs That Pose Questions

9/12/2015 10:00am EDT
14 Recent Songs That Ask Questions
Ah, it’s time for a truly deep question: What makes a song a song? Plenty it turns out, and each and every song has its own unique characteristics. Some songs are exclamatory – assertive in title and equally assertive in substance. Some are jubilant, bursting with the exuberance of sharing “joy to the world” and earning a permanent spot in listener’s hearts. Others ask questions in their title and within their lyrics.

So are songs that ask questions questionable themselves? They could be, but ultimately the songs in question simply inquire, sometimes so inquisitively that a series of qu...

10 Songs That Treat People (Mostly Women) Like They're Pieces Of Meat

10 Songs That Take Objectification Way Too Far
Admit it – we’ve all been guilty of oogling, aka checking somebody else out. Ah, the art of objectification – treating a person like they’re an ‘object of pleasure’ as opposed to a human with legitimate emotions, etc. Most often, it seems this occurs at the hand of men, though Jennifer Lopez proved on “I Luh You Papi” that guys can be objectified as well. Still, objectification can cross the line into unquestionable misogynistic territory, and the songs on this particular playlist definitely trend “left of center.” Here are 10 songs that take objectification way too far.

Happy Or Sad, These Songs Will Bring You To Tears

8/23/2015 2:00pm EDT
14 Songs That’ll Bring You To Tears
Sometimes you’ve just got to break down…crying that is. Tears can be therapeutic in both depressed and jubilant circumstances. The 14 songs that grace this list all encompass tears in different capacities, whether the context is happy or sad or the “tears” themselves are more metaphorical. Regardless, these songs need to be spinning on any and everybody’s tearful playlist!

1) Faith Evans, “Tears Of Joy” (R&B Divas, 2012)

Faith Evans indeed has “tears of joy” on her moving song of the same title. This is not a sad song in the least as Evans doesn’t reference pain, but jubilance, exu...

Jill Scott’s 'Woman' Is A Triumph For R&B

8/4/2015 8:47am EDT
Jill Scott Makes It Two Consecutive No. 1 Albums On Billboard
R&B has triumphed atop the Billboard 200 for the second time this year! Is it a total change of pace for commercially ailing genre? Jill Scott follows her first #1 album, 2011’s Light Of The Sun with a second one with Woman. Woman didn’t match the higher-flying sales of Light Of The Sun, but Scott’s first album in four years certainly has performed better than most of her contemporaries’ R&B efforts. 62,000 units is by no means “the second coming,” but it’s respectable considering the number of albums that have tanked this year (yeah you Jamie Foxx and Ciara).

Jill Scott wasn’t the sol...

Future’s Best Career Effort Pays Off

7/27/2015 10:45am EDT
Future, DS2 © Epic
Musicians continue to make chart history in 2015 despite lackadaisical sales in many cases. Future’s sales were by no mean lackadaisical this time around as DS2 (Dirty Sprite 2) debuted commandingly at #1 on the Billboard 200. No, Future was unable to move the same numbers of contemporaries like Drake, Kendrick Lamar, or Meek Mill, but his 147,000 units is his best career week yet. Even in sales alone, 121,000 copies according to Billboard, he more than doubled his start for his 2014 effort, Honest.

What gives with Future’s come up? That’s a good question! Interestingly, as Future is...

Check Out Our Thoughts On Future’s New Album ‘DS2’?

7/22/2015 1:47pm EDT
Review: Future Steps Up His Game On ‘DS2’
Hmm, what’s the best way to describe Atlanta rapper Future? Besides his love of autotune, what comes to mind is polarizing. Some love him while others are more skeptical. Regardless, Future has been everywhere in 2015, so naturally, a new album is a no-brainer. Does the MC “step up his game” on DS2 (Dirty Sprite 2)? Yep, like totally!

DS2 commences in druggy fashion with the irresponsibly terrific “I Thought It Was A Drought.” It’s low key, but good for a bagful of killer one-liners, such as the ridiculous “I just took a piss and I seen codeine coming out / We got purple Activis, I tho...

Tyrese Lands His First No. 1 Album

7/20/2015 8:34am EDT
Tyrese Takes 'Black Rose' To The Top Of The Billboard 200
Sigh, yet another musician has seen his dreams realized on the Billboard 200. Although pure sales and lucrative chart longevity have only been kind to some, a number of artists have landed their first number one album this year. Add Tyrese to the list, as Black Rose earns the Billboard 200 crown this week. The 81,000 units isn’t the sexiest total ever, but, for an R&B album, that’s great. Why? – Because R&B has struggled with commercial lucrativeness all year and Black Rose gives the genre its highest impact and first number one album in 2015. Sweetening things more is that most of the...

Albums To Check Out This Week

Future Leads Albums To Check Out
The second week of a new era has commenced! Yes a friend, that is the epic global music release day that has thrown everybody for a curveball! Last week saw new releases from R5 and Tyrese among others. This week, the releases aren’t necessarily blockbusters either, but anyone in hip-hop circles is familiar with Future and Alan Jackson is the crème de la crème in country music. No, another Meek Mill sized debut isn’t among us at this time, but there are a number of interesting albums to check out.

12 Songs Using The D-Word

12 Songs Using The D-Word
No folks, we’re not talking about the closing track off of Toni Braxton & Babyface’s collaborative album Love, Marriage & Divorce. Nope, we’re referring to that earth shattering, intensifying baby curse word. Justin Bieber used it on his Believe album – albeit subtly on “Die In Your Arms” – to exercise his burgeoning manliness. Other artists use it for emphasis – a pronounced, less harsh variant on the f-bomb. Some truly terrific songs have embraced being ‘damnable’, so here’s a list that’ll have you “Feelin’ Way Too Damn Good” as you read it, Nickelback.

1) Mary J. Blige, “Whole D...

10 Musicians You Either Adore Or Loathe

10 Musicians You Either Adore Or Loathe
Musicians, artists, actors, and celebrities in general tend to have unique personalities. Some of those personalities are so strong that they can be considered divisive – "polarizing" if you will.

The list is long and filled with artists and bands from across all genres. But, there's no need to filter through the musicians to label the ‘offenders’ in your head. We've got the top ten right here, starting with...

It seems no matter how fast Justin Bieber drives or how provocative Miley Cyrus becomes, no one can supersede the master of polarization – Kanye West. West...

Ciara Names Son After Rapper Dad Future

5/21/2014 9:00am EDT
R&B star Ciara is the proud new mom of son Future, who's named after his rapper father. The baby was born on Monday in Los Angeles.

The singer revealed the news on Instagram on Tuesday, posting a photo of the infant's arm on a blanket and the caption: "FUTURE ZAHIR WILBURN 9lbs 10oz May 19 2014."

Last month Ciara told she wore her fiancé's clothes throughout her pregnancy. "I feel like pregnancy has been a great fashion challenge because you can't wear things that you used to wear and you still want to feel like who you are, " she said. "I have to pay some credit to my fiancé's ...

Review: Future's Second Album ‘Honest’ Proves To Be Much Better Than Expected

4/28/2014 9:30pm EDT
Future Honest
I’ll give credit where credit is due – Atlanta MC Future has stepped up his game on his second major label LP, Honest. That doesn’t mean that the content is the deepest ever (it’s not), but arguably better than Pluto, Future establishes his artistic niche. Still a divisive MC at best (or contemporary R&B artist or however you wish to classify him), at least on Honest you know where Ciara’s fiancé stands. After recently finishing penning a review of Honest elsewhere, I’ll briefly rundown three highlights.

“Move That Dope” was definitely a favorite, even though its theme of selling drugs d...

Kanye West Calls Kim Kardashian His 'Trophy' In New Rap Collaboration

4/9/2014 6:33pm EDT
Kanye West and Kim Kardashian
Kanye West has collaborated with rapper Future in the new track "I Won", in which he boasts he beat out NBA and NFL players to win Kim Kardashian as a "trophy."

The tune, in which Future also calls baby mama Ciara his trophy, Kanye raps, "I made it over NBA, NFL players / So every time I score it’s like the Super Bowl," referencing Kim's exes Kris Humphries, Reggie Bush, and Miles Austin.

West even mentions the rumored location of his wedding with Kim: "Baby, we should hit the south of France / So you could run around without them pants."

Warning: Adult Language

Kanye then references ...

Ciara Bares Her Baby Bump On Instagram

Ciara Bares Her Baby Bump On Instagram
Ciara isn’t hiding her growing belly. The singer was happy to show off her baby bump on Instagram in a collection of selfies.

Ciara, who confirmed her pregnancy last month, posed in a handful of pictures wearing a black tank top that revealed how large she’s getting.

Ciara is expecting her first child with fiancé Future, who proposed to her back in October. Ciara hasn’t revealed the gender of her child, but she said, "I did have a preference before I found out what it was. I had a preference at first and when I was told what it was, I felt it's going to be what it's supposed to be."

Miley Cyrus Shows Off Her Nude, Glitter-Covered Body In Future's 'Real And True' Video

Miley Cyrus and Future Real And True video
Miley Cyrus bares all in the new video from Future, which also features British singer/songwriter Mr. Hudson.

Miley dons glittering body paint in the video for "Real And True," leaving little to the imagination while playing a dead female astronaut whose body is brought back aboard a spacecraft by fellow astronauts Future and Mr. Hudson and then brought back to life -- or is she?

The rapper recently told Rolling Stone magazine that Miley "instantly fell in love with the song" when she first heard the hook.

"She did her vocals and they sent it back to me and I wrote my verses to that and ...

Kendrick Lamar Is MTV’s Hottest MC In The Game, Kanye West Angry About Being #7

3/9/2013 12:34pm EST
Kendrick Lamar
MTV has chosen this year’s “The Hottest MC in the Game,” and it’s Kendrick Lamar, who beat 2 Chainz and Rick Ross.

Lamar topped the 2013 list following the success of his debut album, “Good Kid, M.A.A.D City.”

He commented on, "It's very important for hip-hop. I love that they have debates like that. We need that. It's competitive. Even though we (are) doing these collaborations and stuff like that and we cool, at the same time, this is still rap. It's still competitive and I'm trying to compete with everybody to be the best."

Stevie Wonder Reprimands Lil Wayne Over Emmett Till Lyric

2/15/2013 12:24pm EST
Stevie Wonder
Stevie Wonder has publicly chastised Lil Wayne for rapping about assassinated African-American teenager Emmett Till in a leaked song.

The Lollipop star hit headlines this week when an unauthorized remix of Karate Chop, his collaboration with rapper Future, was leaked online.

The song featured a crude reference to 14-year-old Till, who was beaten and shot to death in Mississippi in 1955 for allegedly whistling at a white woman, and prompted bosses at Epic Records to issue an apology and vow to remove the track from the web.

Now, Wonder has waded into the debate and criticized Wayne for...
