Those of you who hate "American Idol" should be down on your knees thanking one of its spawn right about now. Because the long running televised search for a superstar is on the slab. Cause of death: Blunt force trauma inflicted by runner-up Adam Lambert's glittery platform boots.

Those of you who love "American Idol" know I'm right.

Of course, Glambert didn't intend to kill the show. He just underestimated the strength of his fabulosity.

Now it's time to get serious. We are in the final four of American Idol, meaning it is time to do away with the sophomoric ramblings as we wait for the show to begin. Instead, we get our game faces on along with the contestants and attempt to avoid falling bits of the set.

Last night's theme was classic rock, a tremendous departure for a show that's always turned up its nose at the harder-edged stuff. Because big band is apparently more relevant. When the first Guitar Hero was released for the Playstation 2 in November 2005, it was met with both critical acclaim and a lot of buzz: a video game that substituted a simulated guitar for the standard controller? Why, it was unheard of! The game sold a modest 1.5 million copies and was popular enough to launch an entire franchise that has only gotten better with time.
