Survivor: Is It Still A Great Show?

2/19/2009 10:06am EST
In it's 19th season, Survivor is one of the longest running shows on television. It is certainly one of the longest running reality television shows. But the popularity of Survivor is fading. Survivor was once the most talked about show on television. Every week millions of viewers tuned in to see how the contestants would survive with each other on an island for thirty days and which one of them would be voted off the island. It was real drama TV. These days many people have forgotten about Survivor. You realize that the show is still on when you see it while flipping through channels on T...

Is There Any Reality Left In Reality TV?

2/17/2009 9:02am EST
The Bachelor
Writers and producers from many shows including "Laguna Beach," "The Bachelor," and, the granddaddy of them all, "The Real World," have admitted that their shows are either partially scripted and/or edited to manufacture storylines. And even before they admitted it, most of us knew for a long time that the term "reality TV" was kind of an oxymoron.

But remember when the first season of "The Real World" premiered 17 years ago? Some of you who are fans of the show now may have still been in diapers back then, but hopefully you've had an opportunity to see its beginnings. If you have, yo...

Bye-Bye, Bling: A Recessionary Note To Rappers Everywhere

10/29/2008 11:03am EDT
Lil Jon
Yo, my hip-hop brothers, some words of wisdom: these are hard times. Don’t know if you heard, but we’re in a recession. People are losing their homes. Folks’ retirement funds are tanking. People are pawning their jewelry for gas money.

It’s time to reel in the bling. The days of ’90s excess are over and out. All the gold ropes and gold teeth have got to go. You need to trade them in for cash and then hold on to it. Stuff it in those high-tops until the banks are safe again. No more shopping sprees. No more Hummers. No more Cristal. Back to basics, folks. You are not immune. Your record...

Slick Rick Among Honorees At VH1 Hip Hop Honors

10/6/2008 3:46pm EDT
Slick Rick
NEW YORK (AP) - Even though he's considered one of rap's all-time greats, when Slick Rick is asked about his most significant accomplishment, he doesn't mention having a platinum-selling record, classic hits like "Children's Story" or even his most recent accolade - getting saluted as a pioneer at the "VH1 Hip-Hop Honors."

Instead, he cites: owning a home. "I guess my biggest accomplishment would be to purchase some real estate in the Bronx ... to have something to fall back on a rainy day," Slick Rick, who's now a landlord, said in a recent interview. While that may seem rather mundan...

Slideshow: Hair Challenged Musicians - Who's The Worst?

9/30/2008 3:20pm EDT
One of the best things about being a rock star is that you don't have to stay in shape to be successful. You can be skinny and scrawny like Jimmy Page and Flavor Flav or you can be large and in charge like Meatloaf and Heavy D however, to have bad hair can be some what of a set back.

Here are some Musicians who have carried on, persisted and triumphed despite being follicly handicapped.

When you're done here, be sure to check out Male Musicians Who Look Like Girls.

The Demise of the Black Sitcom

8/13/2008 9:15am EDT
The Bernie Mac Show
African Americans have come a long way in a relatively short time in the entertainment industry. From Hattie McDaniel becoming the first black actor to win an Academy Award in 1939 to the trailblazing success of Sidney Poitier in the 1960s, African Americans have consistently broken through show business barriers on the march towards equality. As Frederick Douglass once said, "Without struggle, there is no progress."

Over the years, progress was certainly made in Hollywood, especially on the small screen. In fact, the year 1990 saw a great influx of black talent on television. That...

'I Love Money' Recap: Kissing, Making Out & Love Triangles

7/24/2008 10:39am EDT
I Love Money
What's more fun than watching desperate people eat horrible things? Watching them make out - or not make out - and cause dramatic love triangles on reality TV of course! "I Love Money" knows how to utilize its players, but the romantic entanglements should not be a surprise; all of these contestants were publicly turned down by Flavor Flav, New York, and Bret Michaels. It is shocking it took three episodes before the love games began!

In the third episode of "I Love Money" the teams were given new Captains: The Entertainer for the Gold team and Mr. Boston for the Green team. Really, Gr...

Infamously Bad Rock Teeth

6/20/2008 9:25am EDT
Amy Winehouse
Today the cosmetic dentistry industry is booming. Bringing in millions of dollars a year, everyday joes can get procedures as intense and expensive as veneers or cheap and easy as Snap-on-Smile caps ($1,200 to $1,600). Pretty shinny teeth are so important to our culture that just about every drug store in America sells home whiteners, so why do some of the highest paid entertainers in the world still have horrible teeth?

Following are some musicians that might want to set up an appointment with their dentists:

Amy Winehouse: The stereotype that the Brits have horrible teet...

5/30/2008 3:15pm EDT
Pulse Patrol
Every week the STF (Starpulse Task Force) collects and displays the most interesting comments made on some of the more ridiculous news stories and topics on the website. There is no system for collecting comments, just the ones that the STF found amusing and entertaining.

News Highlights: In this week's batch there were a lot of remarks about the "Lohan Lesbo" Story, The "ageless Madonna" and "Sheen V. Richards Sperm War", as well as many observations on Flavor Flav's continuous love life and the "Kirk Cameron Scientology" firestorm. However, the most outrageous and disgraceful story ...

8. Shy crying because of what reality TV showed her about herself.

7. Hilarious audience member with the horns!

6. Flav's shaved head.

'Flavor Of Love' Finale: Thing 2 Gets Her Gold Grill

5/20/2008 8:44am EDT
Flavor of Love
So because Flav ended up with three girls rather than two after the last elimination (since he brought Thing 2 back) he decided that this episode of "Flavor of Love" he was going to have two eliminations.

All the girls are together having breakfast with Flav, and he pulls out three plane tickets. One is for Paris (even though they are already there), one is for Monaco for a date, and the other is for L.A. for one of the girls to go home. He decides that Thing 2 gets the Paris ticket because he wants her around longer. He ends up sending Sinceer home, and hallelujah! It is about time! ...

Flavor Flav's Eternal Search For Love Finally Ends In Paris!

Flavor Flav
It’s been an endless journey for your boy Flav and three seasons full of ups and downs. But finally, in the City of Lights, it’s time for Flavor Flav to put it all on the line.

On the series’ finale of “Flavor of Love 3” premiering on Monday, May 19 Flav finds himself caught between an undeniable chemistry with one girl and a love connection with the other. With his promise that he’ll “find love or die trying,” this final episode proves to be the most dramatical elimination in “Flavor of Love” history.

Leading up to the series’ grand finale, VH1 will marathon episodes from seas...

'Flavor Of Love' Episode 6: Who Is Really Here For Flav?

3/19/2008 10:50am EDT
Flavor of Love
In the latest "Flavor of Love" episode we get a better feel for which of these girls is really here for Flav and who isn't. The first development on the show was that Myammee went to Flav's room to be with him so that she could step up her game. She showed up in his bathroom with a bikini, and the two shared their first kiss. We then saw Bunz on the phone with someone talking about her electricity bill problem, stating that she owes $300 plus in bill money.

A later phone call involved Seezins picking up the phone to hear Rayna calling on the other line, telling her that there are thing...

'Flavor Of Love': Not Every Bump On Someone's Face Is Herpes

3/4/2008 10:27am EST
Since there are still too many girls for Flav to get to know on "Flavor of Love," he had to do yet another competition. Flav was roasted on Comedy Central, so he thought it would be funny for the girls to do their own Flavorettes Roast. The host of this event was the lovely Sommore, who is an incredible actress/comedian.

Team 1 consisted of Shy, Thing 1 and 2 (and boy do I have something to say to Flav about them), Prancer, Myammee, and Sinceer. Team 2 consisted of Bunz, Grayvee, Bee Ex, Hotlanta, and Seezins. It may be safe to assume that Team 1 had an edge based on the fact that the...

This Season's 'Flavor Of Love' Seems Flimsy

2/26/2008 9:31am EST
Flavor Of Love
Well, it took him three seasons on "Flavor Of Love," but Flav is finally getting the hang of booting the morons. Flav started out with 14 girls in the house, 13 if you count the twins as one...which he has been. More on the twins later.

In the past, Flav has said that no matter what these other girls were saying about each other, he was always going to go to the source to find out for sure. In the case of Ice, that's exactly what he did. She may have dug her own grave and committed career suicide in the process, but she was upfront about it on the very first episode. He asked her why s...

'Flavor of Love 3': Keep Your Eyes On Hotlanta

2/22/2008 11:10am EST
Flavor Flav
Two seasons ago, Flavor Flav began his search for his one true love on "The Flavor Of Love." His first season ended briefly after Hoopz announced at the reunion, “It’s like that but it’s not like that.” It didn’t matter that the two didn’t work out; everyone was just relieved to see that he didn’t pick New York. As crazy as the two of them are, no one really wanted a lunatic to win. After all, she ended up with Tailor Made after two seasons of I Love New York. As for season two, does anyone really know what happened to Deelishis?

Word on the street is that he didn’t give her a single c...

CMT's 'Gone Country' Is Surprisingly Entertaining

2/11/2008 9:35am EST
Dee Snider
"Gone Country," a show in which mostly washed-up singers are resurrected as country stars, is the first show, to my knowledge, on CMT that I've watched in its entirety. I wouldn't call myself a country fan by any means, and at first glance this didn't seem like an appealing show at all. That was until I saw the lineup of goof balls that they had enlisted:

Dee Snider: He's the cross-dressing front man of Twisted Sister whose last major hit was over 20 years ago. I "met" him once in Chicago. He was going through a revolving door with me. I threw some metal horns at him with my hand...

Trashy Reality Shows Feature Drunken Escapades, Showmances & More

2/7/2008 10:27am EST
Rock of Love
Reality TV is an obsession. It's not just typical of American culture, either. Many countries delight in humiliating common folks. That, of course, is the allure. It could be any of us. It could be your sister or brother on TV, hooking up with two people while being broadcast in night vision. Or it could be you.

Following are some of the trashiest and most salacious offerings you can currently find on TV. When is the writers' strike over? Oh, that's right. Guess I'll keep watching.

Big Brother

The King of Trash, in my opinion. I love this show, and I am sad to report that I st...

Comedy Central is spicing up this year's Roast with lots of "flava." Rapper and lova Flavor Flav may love NYC but LA is where all the haters will be! The time is ticking on Flavor Flav and his golden smile when he takes the throne as Comedy Central's newest Roastee.
