Al Jarreau and Stanley Clarke to stage George Duke tribute at jazz festival

Musicians Al Jarreau and Stanley Clarke are set to salute late jazz pianist George Duke with special performances at the 2014 Playboy Jazz Festival in Los Angeles.

Duke, who headlined last year's (13) event, lost his battle with leukaemia in August (13) and now organisers at the Los Angeles Philharmonic Association have announced plans for tribute sets when the festival returns this spring (14).

Singer Jarreau, who first worked with the No Rhyme, No Reason star in the late 1960s, will team up with frequent Duke collaborator, bassist Clarke, to open the Hollywood Bowl bash on 14 June (14),...

Justin Timberlake, Nile Rodgers and Anita Baker are among the stars of the music industry who have voiced their sorrow following the death of jazz great George Duke.

The legendary musician and producer passed away on Monday night at St. John's Hospital in Los Angeles at the age of 67 after a battle with chronic lymphocytic leukaemia.

The news sent a shockwave through the music industry, and his famous friends and fans were quick to pay tribute to the Grammy-winning star who helped create hits for musicians including Michael Jackson, Miles Davis and Frank Zappa.

Jazz great George Duke died on Monday night at the age of 67.

The legendary musician and producer passed away at St. John's Hospital in Los Angeles from lymphocytic leukemia.

Duke, who played keyboard on Michael Jackson's "Off The Wall" album, was a prominent session musician in the 60s who worked with a wide range of musicians, from the likes of violinist Jean-Luc Ponty to the late Frank Zappa, who brought Duke in to play on his 1970 album "Chunga's Revenge", along with "200 Motels" and "The Grand Wazoo".
