Hip-hop star Dr. Dre and music mogul Jimmy Iovine have pledged $70 million to the University of Southern California to fund a new academy that will help serious music students break into the industry.

The donation from Iovine and Dr. Dre, real name Andre Young, will build the Jimmy Iovine and Andre Young Academy for Arts, Technology and the Business of Innovation at the university. The new school will provide a four-year undergraduate program and give students new tools to aid in their music education. Dr. Dre is suing bosses at electronics giant Yamaha over allegations they copied his hugely successful headphone line.

Lawyers for the rap icon filed suit in California last week claiming that Yamaha PRO headphones infringes the patent of his Beats by Dre range.

In the lawsuit, Dre's legal eagles state that the Yamaha range copies "the distinctive aspects of the Beats' Headphones that comprise Beats' Trade Dress Rights."

Coachella's Two-Weekend Festival Was A Big Success, Promoters Plan Same Format For 2013

The two-weekend Coachella festival experiment was a big success - organizers are planning to stage the event over 10 days again next year.

Radiohead, Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg and The Black Keys repeated headlining spots over two weekends last month and the line-up for both California festivals remained unchanged.

The idea proved to be so successful, it will be repeated in 2013.

No headliners or performers have been announced for the 2013 model, but organizers have confirmed the next Coachella will run from April 12-14 and April 19-21.

Dr. Dre has refuted rumors that the Tupac hologram that stunned Coachella last week was a test run for a future tour. In a backstage video, the venerable rapper says that the hologram was implicitly created just for Coachella.

"It was strictly for Coachella. Get it right. I want to get rid of all the rumors out there. This was not done for a tour," Dre says in the video, which was in part created to thank the tech teams behind the hologram.

However, Dre does add a tease. "If a tour happens, we'll see."

The rapper-turned-actor will step behind the camera for upcoming thriller "Thaw," which tells the story of an ancient evil that surfaces during the melting of the ice caps in northern Canada.

Rapper Nate Dogg has died at age 41.

Snoop Dogg's cousin - real name Nathaniel Hale - passed away on Tuesday following a lengthy battle with numerous health issues, reports the Long Beach Press Telegram.

Hale, whose cause of death is not yet known, suffered a series of strokes in 2007 and 2008, which left him paralyzed down the left side of his body.
