Henry Rollins Celebrates The West Memphis 3 Release

Punk icon Henry Rollins is celebrating on tour in Scotland after learning the West Memphis 3 are free men in Arkansas.

The former Black Flag and Rollins Band frontman was among the celebrities campaigning for the release of Damien Echols, Jessie Misskelley and Jason Baldwin, who were jailed for the murder of three boy scouts in 1993.

The three men have maintained their innocence ever since they were jailed for life in 1994, and on Friday they were released from prison after pleading guilty to the crime during an emergency hearing.

The 25 Most Important Albums Of The Decade

12/23/2009 11:43am EST
Most Important Albums of the Decade
Pitchfork and Rolling Stone and Spin and all those other outlets have their lists of the best albums of the decade, and you know what? I'm going to let them. There's no point in me trying to come up with that list because there were so many great records to choose from. Who's to say that The Strokes' Is This It? was better than Muse's Absolution or any album by Arcade Fire? You can't! You can't! Best albums are invariably marked by an editor's (or staff's) preference in music. But what about qualifying the most important? I can tell you that Bob Dylan's Modern Times was probably the best re...

Ten Greatest Albums of the Decade
So far, we've brought you the Greatest TV Shows and Greatest Songs of the decade. Now it's time to look at what may be a dying breed. With the advent of the ability to download singles off the Internet individually, and the massive popularity of the iPod - it's no longer necessary to buy an entire album in order to hear the one or two songs you'd really like to own. Because of that, it may no longer be necessary for artists to create albums, or even sign record deals. This could be the last decade the album is a dominant artform. With that in mind - here are the Ten Greatest Albums of t...

Ten Greatest Songs of the Decade
Yesterday, we brought you the Ten Greatest TV Shows of the decade. Now it's time to turn up the tunes a bit. During this decade, music kind of went back to the way it was fifty years ago. That is, the single became more important than the album. With the rise of mp3 downloads, and the ultra-convenient iPod for playing them back, singles were now the most common way of buying or listening to music. We're on the verge of again seeing artists simply releasing singles, rather than padding them with an additional ten tracks.

With that in mind, here are the Ten Greatest Songs of the decade...

The Bush Administration: A Musical Tribute

1/14/2009 9:21am EST
George W. Bush
It's been a long eight years for America…longer for some than others (see New Orleans). Luckily, we have some very creative musical artists out there suffering along with us. For them, the first amendment is expressed through their music.

These 30 selections may relate to the War in Iraq, the Katrina debacle, our shaky mantle as "The Greatest Country In The World," our desire to have a President smarter than us (see "nucular"), and the list goes on.

As we all hopefully look forward to our next President, let's take one last look back (and good-bye) at George W. Bush, and some so...

The Gabe Dixon Band To Release Self-Titled Album Aug. 26

8/7/2008 7:00pm EDT
The Gabe Dixon Band
Who turns down a personal offer to play keyboard on Paul McCartney's world tour? Gabe Dixon did, and it was probably the best decision of his life. Dixon respectfully turned McCartney down to focus his energies on his band's then-yet-to-be-released album.

The first incarnation of The Gabe Dixon Band was born nine years ago as a jam band with heavy jazz influences, but after a bout of cutbacks and regime changes at their original label, the band members had a collective epiphany and decided to reinvent themselves as a song-based trio. A reviewer for The Nashville Tennessean, Dixon's hom...

Greg Laswell
Renaissance Man Greg Laswell finds himself released from heartache with Three Flights From Alto Nido, his sophomore full-length album on Vanguard Records, to be released July 8th. Three Flights From Alto Nido is the enigmatically, yet aptly titled third volume of his trilogy of heartbreak and redemption.

In 2006, Laswell's Through Toledo was an intimate account of a devastating experience in his life. How The Day Sounds, a six song EP released earlier this year, served as a bridge toward self-realization while vividly capturing the sense of healing and moving on. Three Flights From...

The Ting Tings
Hailing from Salford, Manchester, England, The Ting Tings are: Jules De Martino (drums, vocals) and Katie White (vocals, guitar, bass drum). The band formed in 2006 when Jules and Katie began performing their infectious lo-fi DIY high-spirited sounds at private parties at the Islington Mill, a disused cotton mill where the band lives with lots of other artists (painters, photographers, underground filmmakers, etc).

For the duo's recent limited edition UK single, "Great DJ," a Single of the Week in the NME, The Ting Tings recycled old 7" singles, inverted the covers and relabeled the ...

Will The Candidates' Celebrity Supporters Have Any Impact On The Presidential Election?

1/23/2008 11:38am EST
Barack Obama
Celebrities have long made their political affiliations known, to both the disgruntlement and delight of fans. They've turned on-air time into opportunities to express distaste for our current administration; they've used their fame to help their chosen candidates. Like it or not, some celebrities never turn down a chance to talk politics. And, like it or not, the public often listens.

Politicians have shown their discontent with glitterati appearing in front of Congress (Julia Roberts, Christie Brinkley, Michael J. Fox and even Kevin Richardson of the Backstreet Boys have just done th...
