February 10th, 2009 11:22pm EST
Adele
Singer Adele was in pain throughout the Grammys on Sunday after ripping off a thumbnail before Saturday night's MusiCares tribute to Neil Diamond.

The British singer, who was named a Grammy Best New Artist, was forced to wear a large white bandage on her thumb as she performed Diamond's "Cracklin' Rosie" on the night before the Grammys, and a Band Aid to the big show on Sunday.

She tells Eonline.com, "I ripped my nail off. I had fake nails on and I was having a tickling fight and it bent back and ripped my nail underneath off."

The potential pop stars were then taken away to a conference room, where Barry Manilow - was Neil Diamond busy that day? - gave them an inspired pep talk that included thi...

On the minds of fans and critics alike: Would audiences accustomed to the 'AI' formula accept the alterations? Would the changes be enough to stymie the slow bleed of viewers? Who the heck is Kara DioGuardi?!?

The Monkees' tale is legendary. Micky Dolenz, Davy Jones, Mike Nesmith and Peter Tork were plucked by fate from a mass casting call in 1966. Asked to portray a zany rock band in the spirit of the Beatles' A Hard Day's Night, the quartet went on to out-sell the Beatles and The Rolling Stones combined; more than 16 million albums between 1966 and 1968. After Peter Tork's recent outcry against the Monkees' exclusion from the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame despite their importance as a pop culture phenomenon, Los Angeles' KRTH-FM started a grass roots campaign to get the group inducted.
