10 Bands That Have Stood The Test Of Time
Have you ever heard a song on the radio and thought "Well, these guys won't be around for long?" We've all been there (most of us thought that when we heard Justin Bieber's "Baby"), but this list is for those of us who heard a song or saw a music video and said, "Wow, now these guys/girls have something special."

To kick off our list, we will start with one of the best bands of the eighties. Def Leppard headed up the New Wave Of British Heavy Metal and steamrolled the United States with their first hit song here, "Bringin' On The Heartbreak". To followup their albums "On Through The Nig...

'American Idol' Recap: Anoop & Megan Must Go

American Idol
Random Thoughts While Waiting for the American Idol Contestants to Start Singing:

-It's amazing how four judges can combine to say absolutely nothing in the show open.

-What a strange theme. Why not just say, "pick whatever song you want"?. How does one define a 'popular' download? Conspiracy people!

-Just when you thought the product placement couldn't get any more shameless - Seacrest uses it to promote his own show!

-Wow, Ryan Seacrest plays drops of Simon Cowell and the "American Idol" theme on his show. Local FM Radio now seems like a bastion of creativity and w...

Collateral Damage From Robert Plant's Decision To Nix Zep Reunion

December 25th, 2008 5:00pm EST
Led Zeppelin
Since the surviving members of Led Zeppelin reformed last December for a one-off show to pay tribute to late Atlantic Records founder and legend Ahmet Ertegun, the man who discovered and brought us some of the most talented artists of all-time (seriously, we really could use another Ahmet right about now-- but since the almighty dollar overshadows the need for actual talent we can forget that) and gave a handful of folks in England the greatest holiday gift ever, there has been a weekly story about the band going on tour. And not going on tour. But wanting to tour. And not wanting to tour. ...

How Will We Categorize Our Current Decade of Music?

July 24th, 2008 8:45am EDT
50 Cent
We all know that the 70s was the decade of classic/arena rock, the 80s was the decade of hair metal/synth pop and the 90s was the decade of grunge/alternative rock. This brings up a question that a lot of music lovers must wonder: how will we categorize our current decade of music?

It's funny how music tends to change every generation. The 70s was the era of classic rock where groups such as Led Zeppelin, Aerosmith and Lynyrd Skynyrd took over the entire music scene. Next up was the 80s, where both hair metal rockers such as Guns 'N Roses, Def Leppard and Bon Jovi reigned, along with ...

Can Guitar Hero Top Itself?

April 10th, 2008 2:30pm EDT
Guitar Hero
When the first Guitar Hero was released for the Playstation 2 in November 2005, it was met with both critical acclaim and a lot of buzz: a video game that substituted a simulated guitar for the standard controller? Why, it was unheard of! The game sold a modest 1.5 million copies and was popular enough to launch an entire franchise that has only gotten better with time.

Take, for example, the setlists. The original game, with a mere 47 songs, was composed of almost entirely cover versions. Guitar Hero II, on the other hand, contained 64 songs, four of which were actually recorded by th...

Music Spotlight: 80s Hair Bands

January 2nd, 2008 10:15am EST
Twisted Sister
Hair. It's a four letter word that made a big impact on bands during the 80s. During that time, Aqua Net super hold hairspray was a household name and big-bodied hair was the goal for some rockers. Bands such as Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, and Twisted Sister took big hair to a whole new level.

Short black locks and long blonde hair could only point to a band that doesn't follow the rules so well. Twisted Sister, fronted by Dee Snider, flaunted his thick, blond tresses during such anthems as, "We're not Gonna Take It" and "I Wanna Rock." Not only did he have big hair, his band...
