This is no time for sadness, though -- it isn’t gone just yet. So, in the meantime, we should celebrate some of the biggest hits that have spawned from the show’s contestants. There’s been a lot of them, and they’re all fantastic for a ton of different reasons.

That's Life, Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. (Columbia Records)

Having won this season of America's Got Talent just over two months ago, Landau Eugene Murphy Jr. has been incredibly busy. "California Gurls," "Teenage Dream" and "Firework" also hit the top spot from the "Teenage Dream" album, while a fifth single, "E.T.," made it to number two.

'American Idol' - A History Of Never Getting It Right

5/27/2010 3:50pm EDT
Lee DeWyze
Last night’s American Idol finale brought exciting performances from veteran acts, visits from past contestants and of course, an awkward speech from Paula Abdul. The night also brought about a new idol in Lee DeWyze but his victory over Crystal Bowersox begs the question, did American Idol crown the right contestant last night?

Of course, the answer to that question is largely subjective but Bowersox did appear to be the season’s favorite. Simon Cowell, in all of his omnipotence, said early in the season that Bowersox was the one to beat. Not too long after that episode, Cowell even went ...

Allison Is Sent Home On 'American Idol;' Adam Likely To Win - What Do You Think?

5/7/2009 8:52am EDT
American Idol
No doubt about it, this was a great results show lineup. We start off with Slash accompanying the Idols with a kind of rock performance never before seen on this stage. Where else have we seen tattoos grace "American Idol" in a place other than the lower back? Oh yeah, Megan Joy and Carly Smithson, but I digress. Even though it was a bit cheesy, and kind of a lame song, it was still incredible to see Slash bringing a level of rock beyond the session musicians of the norm. It was like the show exploded for a moment.

But "Idol" was just getting warmed up. Because next, Paula A...

'Idol' Recap: Matt Gets The Boot & Kris Could Steal The Win From Adam

4/30/2009 8:52am EDT
American Idol
Simon Cowell started the American Idol results show by saying how great everyone was and how wide open the competition is this year. He couldn't be more correct. That's why we saw Adam, the favorite all year, nearly exit the stage while the previously ousted Matt Giraud (who I've been calling the most talented competitor all year) got the cruelest boot.

In fact, there were two favorites in the bottom three this week. Probably the two most likely to win the entire competition had to sweat the longest last night. And at this point, it wasn't that much of surprise with the depth remai...

The American Music Awards: A Seat Filler's Report

11/28/2008 11:43am EST
2008 American Music Awards
Having friends in high places is a definite perk to living and working in this crazy town they call Hollywood. Which is how I found myself on a Sunday afternoon with about 200 other fans in my trendiest Hollywood club attire, waiting to be bused to the Nokia Theater in downtown Los Angeles to serve as a seat filler at the 2008 American Music Awards.

Prior to this the largest awards show I had attended was my sister's high school graduation, so I had no idea what to expect. This being Hollywood however, I figured I'd be hanging out with a bunch of Pamela Anderson wannabes and hangers ...

And The 'American Idol' Winner Is...David Cook!

5/22/2008 8:34am EDT
With millions on the edge of their seats, these final words spoken by host Ryan Seacrest echoed throughout L.A.'s Nokia Theatre last night: "The winner of 'American Idol' 2008 is David...Cook!"

Fans leapt off their seats and screamed with joy, while the newly crowned (and shocked) 25-year-old David Cook embraced his gracious rival, 17-year-old David Archuleta. Cook's mother and brother clambered to the stage, eager to celebrate the former bartender's new title. With tears brimming at his eyes, David Cook stood speechless for a good minute until Ryan Seacrest invited him to sing thi...

'American Idol' Says Goodbye To Brooke White

5/1/2008 9:06am EDT
Brooke White
The final five contestants on "American Idol" gracefully welcomed the legendary Neil Diamond to the stage Tuesday night. One of the music industry's most enduring singer/songwriters of the 1960s, 1970s and 1980s, Neil Diamond is noted for popular singles such "Cherry, Cherry," "Red, Red Wine," "Sweet Caroline" and many others. The remaining handful of contestants stepped out of the mainstream contemporary bubble for a temporary flashback to the past. While some were able to transform two songs into their own, others fell victim to the songs' time period, bringing forth a wave of criticis...

Karaoke & Cheesy Performances Prevailed On 'American Idol' This Week

2/21/2008 10:50am EST
American Idol
"Too cheesy," "not relevant," "extremely cabaret" and "terrible vocals" were common criticisms heard from the south end of the judging table this past week on "American Idol." Aside from Paula Abdul's over-the-top compliments and Randy Jackson's on-the-fence opinions, Simon Cowell's take on week one completely highlighted the show.

This year, it seems that Simon is determined to find the right singer to advance into the music industry. And why shouldn't he? A professional needs to be able to handle the rigmarole of the music industry. But often times, Simon loses his focus. Just h...

Moment of Truth: 'American Idol's' Top 24

2/15/2008 9:40am EST
American Idol finalist Syesha Mercado
Hollywood Week on "American Idol" involves several vigorous rounds of make-it-or-break-auditions and constant positive or negative feedback from the judges. It's literally a do-or-die moment in a singer's career. Yes, they can successfully break into the music business without the help of Idol, but becoming part of one of the nation's most watched shows could significantly improve their chances of being "someone."

On Wednesday nights following "American Idol," a question-based show called "Moment of Truth" interrogates a person in the hot seat about their personal life and inner se...

Why Do Some 'American Idol' Stars Succeed While Others Disappear?

1/29/2008 9:56am EST
American Idol
Did you ever notice how some contestants who win American Idol seem to fall off the face of the planet after the season is over? Then there are other "Idol" winners who become huge successes. So why does this happen?

There's no doubt about it, Carrie Underwood and Kelly Clarkson are not only beautiful but extremely talented. Carrie Underwood covered Heart's "Alone" during one of the "Idol" episodes, and it was such an amazing performance that Simon Cowell said to her, "I'm going to make a prediction: you are not only to win this competition, but you're going to sell millions of records...
