American Idols, Where Are They Now?

April 10th, 2014 9:00pm EDT
kelly clarkson
Once known as the show that could instantly make you a star, "American Idol" has suffered lackluster ratings and has had as many "Idols" fail as succeed. Still, the winners that America voted for have not always stayed within the realm of music, some have spread their wings to the acting world as well. Some of the more popular winners are still in the spotlight, some have faded into obscurity, Here is the latest on what many of your favorite "American Idol" winners have been up to since winning.

Interview With 'American Idol' Winner David Cook

October 23rd, 2012 10:46am EDT
David Cook
After being crowned American Idol on the seventh season of the hit reality singing competition “American Idol” in 2008, David Cook has gone on to release two albums (David Cook and This Loud Morning), sold 1.5 million copies of his debut album, #1 hits on the Billboard charts and had some of his singles certified Gold and Platinum to date.

The 29 year old singer-songwriter has not only accomplished a great deal in his career, but he has done a lot for charity as well. His brother, Adam Cook, passed away in 2009 after a decade-long battle with brain cancer. As such, David has decided to do ...

Phillip Phillips Continues Worrying Trend Of 'White Guy With Guitar' Winners For 'American Idol'

May 24th, 2012 4:07pm EDT
Phillip Phillips
Nothing against Phillip Phillips, who surely has some talent, but his win is the latest in a line of what fans have coined "White Guys with Guitars," or "WGWG." With ratings and record sales getting lower, can American Idol do anything to curb the trend?

Since the music competition allowed contestants to play instruments while singing, the show has seen David Cook, Kris Allen, Lee DeWyze, Scotty McCreery, and Phillip Phillips take the prize over a more varied and (arguably) talented field. McCreery is a bit different, slanting towards crooning country instead of the light pop the rest of t...

'American Idol' Down To Three After Hollie Cavanagh's Dismal Bonnie Raitt Cover Does Her In

May 11th, 2012 12:33am EDT
Holly Cavanagh
Hollie Cavanagh couldn't make America love her.

The 18-year-old McKinney, Texas, native received the fewest number of votes on this week's American Idol and was sent home Thursday night.

Hollie's lacking performance of Bonnie Raitt's breakup ballad "I Can't Make You Love Me", which judge Randy Jackson called "the wrong choice at the wrong time", proved to be the budding singer's downfall.

Mentor Jimmy Iovine said Holly "crashed and burned and lost out to those other three singers," chalking up her woes to her lack of having "the personal experience or the professional experience" to take...

Rihanna To Rock 'American Idol' Finale

May 9th, 2012 3:41pm EDT
Rihanna
Rihanna will be rocking the stage during the last American Idol show, wherein a talented contestant will be crowned this year's winner.

Judge Jennifer Lopez will be hitting the stage with her newest tune Dance Again on the May 10 results show, along with previous winner David Cook (who will be singing The Last Song I'll Write For You). But it will be superstar Rihanna that works the finale on May 23.

Rihanna recently starred as the musical guest on SNL, paired with Eli Manning, where she sang parts of Birthday Cake with Talk that Talk and Where Have You Been on lavish sets. Who knows wh...

The former American Idol winner and Light On singer was left devastated when brain cancer claimed brother Adam's life two years ago and now he has signed up to compete in the 2012 Honda LA Marathon in March to raise money for, and awareness about the disease. He hopes the run will help him generate $100,000 to help eradicate the illness.

'American Idol' Recap: Was This The Most Boring Finale Ever?

May 25th, 2011 9:35am EDT
Lauren Alaina and Scotty McCreery
The most boring finalists ever. That seemed to be the conventional wisdom going into the evening. That, despite a strong start, this season of ‘Idol’ was destined to fall into oblivion with two dull finalists that wouldn’t be able to deliver the finale this Renaissance season deserved.

Yes, that might be true. It may have been more interesting to see James square off against Pia or Jacob take on Haley, but that doesn’t necessarily mean this is the most boring collection of contestants ever, does it?

Here’s a ranking of finale pairings from least boring to most boring:

Bowersox has now put the heartbreak behind her by announcing her engagement to her new love, musician Brian Walker.

And the new couple can't wait to exchange vows - they are planning to marry as early as next month, according to People.com.

'American Idol' Grand Finale Mega-Diary 2010

May 27th, 2010 9:14am EDT
Lee Dewyze
It’s mega-diary time once again, kids. A time to give the blow-by-blow, the play-by-play of the most important events in pop culture.

The only question is whether or not this is the last time the “American Idol” finale warrants such treatment. The mega-diary is reserved for TV events like The Oscars and The Emmys (and by all rights The Super Bowl if lack of sobriety didn’t prevent cataloging that evening), but I’m not sure how much longer “Idol” is going to fit.

With Simon’s departure and dwindling ratings, this night next year could be on a part with the season finale of “Survivor” or ...

American Idol Lee DeWyze
The ninth season has officially come to a close, with Lee DeWyze taking home the title of the next "American Idol."

It was only the second time in the show's history where neither of the final two contestants - DeWyze and runner up Crystal Bowersox - had ever finished in the bottom two or bottom three with viewer votes. The other two to accomplish the feat were Season 7 winner David Cook and runner up David Archuleta. Former winners Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Taylor Hicks, Jordin Sparks and Cook never landed in the bottom three with viewer votes either.

'American Idol' Recap - Lacey Gets The Boot + Idol Power Rankings

American Idol Final 11 season 9
First Lilly hits the road, and now the second of my initial favorites bites the dust.

It’s not a surprise that Lacey left last night – she was probably the worst singer left in the competition, and it wasn’t a surprise she was joined by Tim Urban in the bottom three. The man who is now certainly the worst singer remaining. The mild shock was Paige’s presence in the bottom three. She absolutely killed “Honky Tonk Women” on Stones night, and showed that she could develop into the kind of pop artist that plays well on the radio – along the lines of Jordin Sparks.

So while the departure ma...

'American Idol' Needs a Revamp... Now!

American Idol
With the recent news that Paula Abdul will not be returning for American Idol's ninth season, the timing seems perfect for the show to reinvent itself, and recapture the magic that has been steadily dwindling since it premiered nearly a decade ago. Though ratings remain high, viewership is decreasing, a problem that the show tried to address by adding a new judge at the start of the eighth season. Unfortunately, what "American Idol" needs is not a mere shuffling of parts, or replacement of personality. The show needs to restructure its format, and realize that the problem is an over-saturat...

Kris Allen Wins 'American Idol'!

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Kris Allen's smooth vocals and boy-next-door image propelled him to "American Idol" victory Wednesday, turning the theatrical powerhouse Adam Lambert into the most unlikely of also-rans.

"I'm sorry, I don't even know what to feel right now. This is crazy," said a stunned Allen, 23, of Conway, Ark.
