Five Reasons Why Richard Marx & John Mayer Are Alike

5/11/2009 10:04am EDT
Though Richard Marx got his big break in the late 1980's and John Mayer got his in early 2000's (nearly 15 years later), if we were able to do a 'quantum leap,' we could easily pop each man into one another's career. John would leap into 1987 (the year of Richard's self-titled debut album), and Richard's music career would begin in 2001 when John's hit making album "Room for Squares" was released. Surely, both men would still have great success and receive just as many accolades because their musicality is that amazing.

Check out five top reasons why these two gentlemen of music can ...

Attack Of The Comic Book Movies

2/12/2009 12:02pm EST
Bringing comic book heroes (and villains) to the big screen has meant big bucks for movie studios in recent years. With huge budgets and state of the art special effects, it's easier than ever for filmmakers to convincingly create the fantasy worlds that classic comic characters inhabit, both delighting die-hard "geeks," and captivating folks who've never picked up a comic book in their lives.

Comic book films have always been popular, dating back to the movie serials of the 1940s featuring Superman, Batman, and Flash Gordon, just to name a few. Christopher Reeve's "Superman" in 1978...

'Remind Me In 3 Days…' The New Album From The Knux Out Oct. 28

10/18/2008 9:00am EDT
The Knux
Hip hop used to be feeling, not form—A boom-bap rush that could, and would, be interpreted and articulated differently by it's various creators. It was this loose constitution, open to infinite amendments that bred the broad crop of creative, innovative rap in late '80s and early '90s. However, things changed. When the financial stakes is high, that which makes dollars makes sense, and consequently a more polished and rigid vision of hip hop emerged in the mid-'90s, and it catapulted the genre to new heights.

Hip hop continued to progress into the new millennium and brought even newer...

The Best And Worst Music Videos Supporting Barack Obama

10/13/2008 12:37pm EDT
Barack Obama
Why does Barack Obama attract enough attention from musicians that they wish to create a song for him? Is it the fact that this is the point in history where a man of color has a chance to lead the free world? Perhaps it is as simple as the idea that widely-known musicians generally lean to the left on the political spectrum.

Today, musicians have a new medium to release their work on: the Internet - or, more specifically, YouTube. However, since it doesn't cost any money to publish on YouTube, it opens the door to amateur (that's putting it lightly) attempts. Here are the three best ...

Why Are So Many Rappers Acting?

8/27/2008 11:46am EDT
This isn't to bash rappers, nor is it to say that these artists aren't allowed to pursue different paths in Hollywood. With so many prominent rappers acquiring roles in big movies though, it begs the question-why?

It's not as if rappers in movies are a new thing. In 1991, Mario Van Peebles cast Ice-T as a cop in "New Jack City," a film that is beloved by many. That same year, director John Singleton cast Ice Cube as a Los Angeles gangbanger in "Boyz N the Hood." These two movies helped open the floodgates for rappers to enter the world of acting.

Soon, Will Smith went from rap...

Will The Candidates' Celebrity Supporters Have Any Impact On The Presidential Election?

1/23/2008 11:38am EST
Barack Obama
Celebrities have long made their political affiliations known, to both the disgruntlement and delight of fans. They've turned on-air time into opportunities to express distaste for our current administration; they've used their fame to help their chosen candidates. Like it or not, some celebrities never turn down a chance to talk politics. And, like it or not, the public often listens.

Politicians have shown their discontent with glitterati appearing in front of Congress (Julia Roberts, Christie Brinkley, Michael J. Fox and even Kevin Richardson of the Backstreet Boys have just done th...

2/14/2007 3:08pm EST
Consequence was born in Queens at the dawn of the hip-hop era, when all rap was East Coast rap and all of rap's influential early artists were based in the New York City area. Throughout his career, Consequence gained credibility not only on the streets with his peers but with the critics as well. A gifted storyteller, he has a keen and unwavering sense of what he is all about. His objective realizm provides a clear alternative not only to gangsta rap but also to the watered-down and overly calculated pop-rap. "What I rhyme about is what I see around me, I'm a result of the hood, my rhymes ...
