Albert Collins was born on October 1, 1932 in Leona, Texas and was an electric blues guitarist and singer. Collins began his recording career in the 1960s in Houston and earned a number of nicknames throughout his career from his peers, such as “The Ice Man,” “The Master of the Telecaster,” and “The Razor Blade.” Collins grew up in Texas in the 1940s and 1950s listening to the blues from Texas, to Mississippi, and to Chicago. Collins developed his own style by incorporating all three of these blues styles and cited the music of John Lee Hooker; organist Jimmy McGriff; Lightnin' Hopkins; Guitar Slim; and Clarence “Gatemouth” Brown as major influences on his musical development...
