NFL To Charge Halftime Acts To Perform?

August 20th, 2014 5:21pm EDT
Halftime Show
Katy Perry, Coldplay and Rihanna have all reportedly been approached by the National Football League to possibly perform during halftime of Super Bowl XLIX on Feb. 1, 2015. But there's a catch.

The NFL, according to the Wall Street Journal, wants this year's performers to pay to put on their act for millions of TV viewers around the globe.

The league, which only gets a measly $4 million for 30 seconds of ad time during the big game, thinks artists should have to give them a cut of their post-performance profits from touring and boosted album sales following the performance.

Mariah Carey’s 'The Elusive Chanteuse' Expected To Underperform

May 29th, 2014 11:30am EDT
Me. I Am Mariah
Unstoppable Ghost Stories…

As much as I hate to say it (and I do) Mariah Carey’s fortunes with latest LP Me. I Am Mariah…The Elusive Chanteuse are looking grim… DUN, DUN, DUN! Billboard.com has already practically “signed, sealed, delivered” another chart-topping week for Coldplay, even if the erosion is near the 80% mark. Coldplay sold 383,000 copies this week to easily top the Billboard 200 Albums Charts, meaning even a sub-100K selling week in its sophomore frame is likely to keep it in that number one spot.

Mimi’s Misfortunes…

So how many copies is Carey’s first album in five y...

Review: Coldplay, 'Ghost Stories'

May 20th, 2014 10:37am EDT
Coldplay, 'Ghost Stories'
On sixth album Ghost Stories, Coldplay opt for subtlety, mysteriousness, and restraint.

“I’m kind of a big deal.” That quote perfectly describes any album released by British alt-rock band Coldplay. Anytime the collective releases a new single or new album, you just know it is going to be huge news. Perhaps the only news that is on the same level as the quartet’s newest LP Ghost Stories is that of the separation between front man Chris Martin and his A-list actress wife Gwyneth Paltrow. What’s the connection between new album and breakup – well, Ghost Stories is all about a four-letter wor...

Chris Martin
Chris Martin says his marriage hasn't gone through a "breakdown," but instead a "realization."

The Coldplay singer has talked about his "conscious uncoupling" from Gwyneth Paltrow for the first time in an interview with BBC's Radio 1.

He told interviewer Zane Lowe, "I wouldn't use the word breakdown, this was more a realisation about trying to grow up.

"If you can't open yourself up, you can't appreciate the wonder inside.

"You can be with someone wonderful, but because of your issues you can't let that be celebrated in the right way."

Martin also said his upcoming Coldplay album, Ghos...

Arcade Fire, 'Reflektor' Review: Uninteresting And Too Long Are A Few Words To Describe

October 29th, 2013 9:15pm EDT
Arcade Fire Reflektor
Words are hard. They’re hard to come up with to start this review off. Halfway through listening to the new Arcade Fire album, Reflektor, I found myself wishing I hadn’t set out to do a review on it. It’s not as if I needed to, I just like to keep busy and keep up with new music. I’ve been sitting here trying to figure out what to say, how to sum up how I feel about the album overall. I’ve thrown out a few tweets about it, but even 140 characters is hard to limit myself. This is a super self-indulgent, bloated, boring, pointless, wandering album. I could probably go grab a thesaurus and fin...
