Clarence Carter was born on January 14, 1936, in Montgomery, Alabama and is a soul singer. Carter's love for music was present from an early age and after acquiring a Bachelor of Science degree in music in 1960, Carter set his sights on a career in music. His professional music career began when Calvin Scott helped secure a deal for himself and Carter as a duo with Fairlane Records. The duo's first release was, “I Wanna Dance But I Don't Know How,” in 1962, and shortly thereafter they left Fairlane Records and signed with Duke Records.
