Legendary rock band Alice In Chains has signed an exclusive worldwide deal with EMI's Virgin Records and are gearing up for the release of their first new studio album in more than 10 years. The band and producer Nick Raskulinecz (Rush, Foo Fighters) began recording last October at Studio 606 in Northridge, CA and recently finished mixing at Henson Studios in Hollywood. The surviving members of Alice In Chains are hitting the road this summer for the first time since former frontman Layne Staley's death from a drug overdose in 2002. The band will reunite for the Nova Rock Festival in Austria on June 28, along with Metallica, Guns N' Roses, Tool, Queens Of The Stone Age, and Massive Attack.

All the members of the Alice In Chains last toured together in 1996. Guitarist Jerry Cantrell, bassist Mike Inez and drummer Sean Kinney have only reunited on stage once since Staley's death, at a February 2005 tsunami benefit show in Seattle, Washington.

Alice In Chains guitarist Jerry Cantrell is recovering in hospital after injuring his shoulder.

Cantrell, 39, was treated in a Los Angeles hospital last week (December 9) by doctor Stephen Lombardo, who removed bone fragments and repaired cartilage from his left shoulder.

Cantrell's publicist Bob Merlis confirms Cantrell will recover in time for a concert with the surviving members of Alice In Chains and Heart in March 2006. Singer Layne Staley died from a drugs overdose in 2002.
