Calle 13 rapper Rene Perez Joglar wrecked his own luxury Maserati sports car while shooting his new music video in a protest against excess.

The Puerto Rican hip-hop star is hoping the extreme stunt in the promo for single Adentro will help persuade fans to reconsider the way they strive for material possessions.

He tells, "I bought the Maserati because I myself fell victim to the stereotypes. I thought that once I had a nice house and a nice car that meant I had made it in the entertainment industry.

Puerto Rican hip-hop duo Calle 13 made Latin Grammy Awards history in Las Vegas on Thursday night by picking up nine honors, including the coveted Album of the Year prize for Entren Los Que Quieran.

Stepbrothers Residente and Visitante, who led the nominations with 10, previously shared the record for most wins - five - with Juanes and Juan Luis Guerra.

Calle 13 have landed a record 10 nominations for the upcoming 12th annual Latin Grammy Awards in Las Vegas.

The group is nominated in all the major categories including Album and Record of the Year for Entren Los Que Quieran and Latinoamerica, respectively.

Their haul also features nominations for Song Of The Year, Best Urban Music Album, Best Urban Song, Best Alternative Song, Best Tropical Song and Best Short Form Music Video.

Calle 13 Release Graphic & Bloody Video 'Muerte In Hawaii'

Latino stars Calle 13 are set to stun fans with their latest video, in which frontman Rene "Residente" Perez is shot in the head at point blank range.

The bloody promo for "Muerte en Hawaii" opens with slow motion footage of Perez and his girlfriend running along a white sandy Hawaiian beach as a pretty ukelele-based tune plays, but it quickly becomes apparent the singer and his partner are running for their lives as gunshots kick up the sand around their feet.

The couple keep running to the ukelele soundtrack until Perez is sent reeling by a bomb blast, which costs him his left arm.

Pop sensation Lady Gaga was the toast of the Latin American music scene on Thursday night, winning two honors at the Los Premios MTV Awards in Los Angeles.

Bosses at MTV split the ceremony between a string of cities including Bogota, Colombia, Buenos Aires, Argentina and Mexico City, with performances from the regional shows broadcast at the L.A. leg, held in the city's Gibson Amphitheatre. SONY BMG Music Entertainment today announced the launch of Platinum MusicPass, a series of digital album cards that enable consumers to download full-length albums, and in many cases special bonus content, in the form of high-quality MP3 files. The first 37 titles in the series, which represent musical genres ranging from Rock and Pop to R&B and Country, will debut on January 15th, 2008 and by the end of the month will be available at 4,500 retail outlets across the United States. Colombian singer Shakira was the big winner at last night's Latin Grammy Awards, taking home four accolades. The singer picked up "Record Of The Year" and "Song Of The Year" for "La Tortura" - which she performed with Spanish heart-throb Alejandro Sanz - and "Album Of The Year" and "Best Female Pop Vocal Album" for Fijacion Oral Vol. 1 at the Madison Square Garden ceremony in New York City.

Shakira took the opportunity to support illegal immigrants who are seeking work in the United States, saying, "I hope soon they will receive they recognition they deserve from the government."
