Friends Cadillac Don (born Donald Sharp) and J-Money (born Tiyon Rogers) grew up in Crawford, MS, listening to blues and R&B but soon were drawn to the more aggressive nature of rap. Both attended college on baseball scholarships, but an injury sidelined J-Money from trying out for the pros, while Cadillac Don decided to take a job teaching high school art. However, both continued to rap on the side and eventually, after meeting local producer Big Fruit, decided to form a duo. Their song "Peanut Butter & Jelly" caught the attention of Asylum Records (a Warner imprint), which signed Cadillac Don & J-Money to a distribution deal in 2006 as their single continued to gain radio play, and in November of that year their debut full-length, the Ying Yang Twins- and UGK-influenced Look at Me, came out.
