C+C Music Factory is a dance group whose music is based primarily in pop and hip-hop genres. The group formed in 1989 by David Cole and Robert Clivillés, and disbanded in 1996 after Cole's death. Before forming C+C Music Factory Clivillés and Cole were active in the house-music groups 2 Puerto Ricans, a Blackman, and a Dominican and The 28th Street Crew in the late 1980s. In 1989 Clivillés and Cole hired vocalists Zelma Davis and Martha Wash, and MC Freedom Williams to work with the duo on their debut album, 1990’s “Gonna Make You Sweat.” The album peaked at #2 on the Billboard 200 Albums chart and at #11 on the R&B Albums chart and was certified 5× platinum.
