Q&A: MC Toni Monroe

January 31st, 2012 1:00pm EST
Toni Monroe
Being a female MC is unique enough - but Toni Monroe has shattered the expectation of the role. Not only is she a woman, but she's a woman who doesn't fit any physical stereotype. And not only is she not concerned about being different, she's completely embraced her self-image.

I recently talked with Toni about what makes her who she is, and the challenges she's faced as a plus-size woman in her profession.

What made you want to become an MC?

As far as me being an MC, I just feel like it was just one of those things. It was all or nothing. Anybody can rap, but I wanted to do it and...

Music Review: 'Fast Five' Soundtrack

May 12th, 2011 4:00pm EDT
Fast Five
Various Artists, Fast Five Original Motion Picture Soundtrack (ABKCO)

The fact that I'm even writing this review speaks to the quality of the Fast Five soundtrack. It dropped last week (May 3), but I've enjoyed listening to it so much that I wanted to feature it anyway.

If you've listened to the soundtracks that were put out for The Fast and the Furious series previously, you know what to expect with this one. Particularly if you're familiar with the album for Fast & Furious - this CD has the same Latin sound as that one, even with some of the same artists. Fast Five is a superior album, ...

NEW YORK (AP) - Even though he's considered one of rap's all-time greats, when Slick Rick is asked about his most significant accomplishment, he doesn't mention having a platinum-selling record, classic hits like "Children's Story" or even his most recent accolade - getting saluted as a pioneer at the "VH1 Hip-Hop Honors."
