Luke Bryan Stays At No. 1

8/25/2015 9:14am EDT
Luke Bryan Makes It Two Weeks Atop Billboard 200
It’s hard to topple a king, and that’s exactly what country singer Luke Bryan is this week. After dropping Kill The Lights with robust numbers last week, Bryan manages to keep the top spot warm for a second consecutive week. No, he couldn’t score another 345,000 units, but he was good enough for another 99,000. Sophomore week blues happen to everybody, even when you’re a “Country Man” like Bryan.

So with Luke at the top once more, were there any newbies that debuted in the top 10? Yes. Melanie Martinez entered at #6 with her unique debut effort Cry Baby moving 40,000 units. The numbe...

Check Out Our Take On Bullet For My Valentine’s New Album 'Venom'

8/21/2015 11:20am EDT
Review: Bullet For My Valentine Rock Hard On 'Venom'
Sometimes, you just need to ‘rock hard.’ If there’s one band that can satisfy those hard-rocking needs, it’s Welsh heavy metal band Bullet For My Valentine. Returning with their fifth studio Venom, Bullet For My Valentine definitely ‘amp up’ to say the least. Are you infatuated with guitar harmonies and screamed vocals? Then you definitely need a dosage of Venom STAT!

After setting the tone with instrumental intro “V,” “No Way Out” unleashes sans an ounce of subtlety. The verses are characterized by the screaming – passionate “that’s gotta hurt the voice” screaming. While much of it ...

Billboard 200 Sees Some Big Numbers

8/18/2015 9:48am EDT
Luke Bryan And Dr. Dre Bring Some Much Needed Life To the Billbo
Last week on the Billboard 200 charts was a pitiful one. In case you missed it, the soundtrack to Disney’s made-for-TV movie Descendants debuted atop the charts, moving a tepid 42,000 units. Ouch! Such abysmal numbers are not the case for this week though, and music executives everywhere should be taking victory laps in the regard – preferably like in Blues Brothers.

Moving on, Luke Bryan unsurprisingly secured the top spot this week, easily dropping 345,000 units of Kill The Lights. While Bryan didn’t sell 345,000 copies, most of those according to Billboard were pure sales (320,000 o...

Melanie Martinez Leads Albums To Check Out
Ah, the second release week of August. Is it as high-flying as the first week, which included new albums from Dr. Dre and Luke Bryan? Well not quite, but face it, we were spoiled week one! Still, there’s some interesting new listens, including one of the most high-profile The Voice alumni releases that comes to mind. But even if you don’t see your “cup of tea” this week, next week has a bit more punch. But until then, here are five albums to check out this week!

1) Melanie Martinez, Cry Baby (Atlantic)

Distinctive sounding The Voice alum Melanie Martinez drops her major label debut a...

Iron Maiden
British rockers Iron Maiden have been caught up in the chaos following the devastating earthquake in Japan - their plane was diverted as they travelled to Tokyo for a show.

5/24/2010 8:39pm EDT
Bullet for My Valentine
The Review Rundown: 140 Characters or Less express train rolls on through for another edition, this time serving up another ten spot of reviews that err on the side of brevity, including Jennifer Knapp, Bullet for My Valentine, Red Summer Tape, Flatfoot 56, Christa Borden, Calloway, Theory of Flight, Cancer Bats, the Apples in Stereo and the Glitch Mob.

File Under: Rock Tinged Singer/Songwriter

Jennifer Knapp – “Letting On” (Graylin Records): Sweet, sultry & decadently commanding, Knapp’s “Letting Go” is brimming w/plenty of bright spots. It’s part pop, part rock, but all good.
