Singer/actor Reeve Carney has confirmed reports he's the man who will portray tragic star Jeff Buckley in a new biopic, insisting he wants to capture the songwriter's "mystic quality" in the film.

Carney, who is currently playing Spider-Man on Broadway, beat out stars like Robert Pattinson to play the revered Buckley - and he will re-record the late star's classic tunes for the film's soundtrack.

The star admits he's thrilled to have the backing of Buckley's mother, who will be among the producers of the project.

He tells Billboard.com, "I think we're all on the same page in wanting to m...

Penn Badgley
Gossip Girl hunk Penn Badgley has landed the coveted role of Jeff Buckley in one of several biopics set to hit the big screen next year.

It had been rumored Badgley was close to signing to portray the musician and had beaten an eager Robert Pattinson to the role.

Movie producer Orian Williams spoke out and slammed the reports, insisting Badgley had nothing to do with his film and Pattinson had only been engaged in several early-stage talks.

However, it turns out the TV star will play his idol on-screen - but in a different biopic. Badgley will tackle the lead role in upcoming project ...

Jeff Buckley Would Have Loved Chart Revival

December 21st, 2008 4:00pm EST
Jeff Buckley
The mother of cult singer Jeff Buckley is convinced her son would have been amused that music mogul Simon Cowell has given him a boost up the pop charts - years after his death.

Fans of the late rocker, who died in a swimming accident in 1997, are campaigning to take his recording of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah to the top of the U.K. charts this Christmas in a bid to beat another cover version of the song by singer Alexandra Burke.

Burke was awarded a $1.5 million record deal with Syco Records, Cowell's division of Sony BMG, when she took home the crown on Cowell's TV competition T...

November 18th, 2008 10:12am EST
Sprague Grayden
Sprague Grayden is a pleasure to talk to about almost anything and everything, which it seems we did. She talked to us about her new role on Fox's "24" as well as previous shows like "Jericho," "Sons of Anarchy" and "Six Feet Under." We also discussed her love of sci-fi and Pez.

We should get this out of the way, since it is probably the first question everyone asks. Your first name is your mom's maiden name, correct? It's very cool.

Yes. Thanks!

So if you have a child, will you maybe name him/her Grayden?

Grayden is a pretty cool first name for a child but I'm going to ...

Music Biopics: What's Been Done, What's In The Works, & What We Want

September 19th, 2008 9:07am EDT
Walk the Line
The biopic is a longstanding Hollywood tradition. There are the big budget epics like the now infamous Elizabeth Taylor vehicle "Cleopatra," David Lean's masterpiece, "Lawrence of Arabia," or Richard Attenborough's "Gandhi." Then there are the smaller pictures chronicling the equally gripping stories of those less celebrated. Daniel Day Lewis' portrayal of the Irish cerebral palsy painter, Christy Brown in "My Left Foot," or Bill Condon's 2004 film "Kinsey" about human sexuality researcher Alfred Kinsey come to mind.

In recent years, thanks in part to the wide success of the films "Ray...

'So Real: Songs From Jeff Buckley' Is The First Anthology Of The Late Singer

May 7th, 2007 6:00pm EDT
Jeff Buckley
One of rock's hardest lessons is that the impact of an artist's career is often not measured by the time he spends among us, but rather by the intensity with which his music reverberates after he is gone. Jeff Buckley yielded one original studio album on Columbia Records during his lifetime, the impossibly glorious Grace, released in the summer of 1994. It made its way onto many a fan and critic's list as one of the most important recordings of the '90s.

Buckley's "lamentably brief career," as it has been characterized by his mother, Mary Guibert, came to a tragic and untimely end on...
