12 'Bloody' Great Songs

12/4/2015 2:30pm EST
Good Blood, Bad Blood, Young Blood… 12 'Bloody' Great Songs
Ah blood – what a morbid, unpleasant topic! Not necessarily, as blood contextually can refer to any number of things. Perhaps it’s the bloodstream, DNA or a deeper, metaphorical context. Over the course of this ‘bloody great’ list, blood is used both literally and figuratively, depending on the artist and song. Here are 12 bloody great songs… well some of ‘em are great!

1) Future, “Blood On the Money” (DS2, 2015)

Arguably, DS2 can be described as the best album of Future’s career. It’s shallow, but even so, Future clearly sounds in his zone rapping about, well, drugs. “Blood on the Mone...

Drake And Future Take Top Honors

Drake And Future Take ‘What A Time To Be Alive’ To No. 1
Lana Del Rey could practically taste her second no. 1 album – that is until Drake and Future totally ‘killed her vibe’ with surprise mixtape, What A Time To Be Alive. Expectedly, the superstar hip-hop collaboration was too much for the moody, alt-pop singer to overcome. In other words, her Honeymoon in the ‘penthouse’ wasn’t meant to be. Okay, okay, enough puns!

Drake and Future took top honors on the Billboard 200, to the tune of 375,000 units – WOW! This doesn’t outpace Drake’s earlier no. 1 album If You’re Reading This It’s Too Late or the juggernaut that was The Weeknd’s Beauty Behin...

The Weeknd Keeps Top Spot For Third Week

The Weeknd Makes It Three Weeks At No. 1 On Billboard
For a third consecutive week, The Weeknd keeps the top spot on the Billboard 200 piping hot. Well, perhaps the 99,000 units that Beauty Behind The Music moved this week isn’t ‘the second coming’ but The Weeknd definitely has a good thing going for him. Three weeks in, Beauty Behind The Madness has moved around 655,000 units. Pure sales are less robust eliminating streaming and tracking from the formula, but still Beauty Behind The Madness is putting up some sales numbers as well – impressive!

Not only is The Weeknd getting it done on the Billboard 200, but also he is equally hot on the...

12 Songs All About 'Sobriety'
Demons are everywhere. Okay not literally, but metaphorically. One demon that often entices is the “bottle,” aka alcohol in some form or fashion. Don’t get it twisted – alcohol can be marvelous and incite fun times in moderation. That said it can also be destructive. When it becomes destructive or counterproductive, then the “sober up” has to happen – the hangover must end.

So what does any of this have to do with 12 Songs All About 'Sobriety'? Well now… Basically, these songs all approach sobriety from a variety of angles. Sometimes being sober is seen in a positive light, while o...

Luke Bryan Stays At No. 1

Luke Bryan Makes It Two Weeks Atop Billboard 200
It’s hard to topple a king, and that’s exactly what country singer Luke Bryan is this week. After dropping Kill The Lights with robust numbers last week, Bryan manages to keep the top spot warm for a second consecutive week. No, he couldn’t score another 345,000 units, but he was good enough for another 99,000. Sophomore week blues happen to everybody, even when you’re a “Country Man” like Bryan.

So with Luke at the top once more, were there any newbies that debuted in the top 10? Yes. Melanie Martinez entered at #6 with her unique debut effort Cry Baby moving 40,000 units. The numbe...

Billboard 200 Sees Some Big Numbers

8/18/2015 9:48am EDT
Luke Bryan And Dr. Dre Bring Some Much Needed Life To the Billbo
Last week on the Billboard 200 charts was a pitiful one. In case you missed it, the soundtrack to Disney’s made-for-TV movie Descendants debuted atop the charts, moving a tepid 42,000 units. Ouch! Such abysmal numbers are not the case for this week though, and music executives everywhere should be taking victory laps in the regard – preferably like in Blues Brothers.

Moving on, Luke Bryan unsurprisingly secured the top spot this week, easily dropping 345,000 units of Kill The Lights. While Bryan didn’t sell 345,000 copies, most of those according to Billboard were pure sales (320,000 o...

Disney's 'Descendants' Soundtrack Takes Top Honors On The Billbo
Let’s just cut right to the chase – it was a BAD week for album sales. Honestly, record companies should NEVER let a week like this happen again. Unless you’re a total Disney TV movie fanatic, this week’s number one album will totally surprise because of its unfamiliarity. The soundtrack to the Disney TV movie Descendants takes the top honors on the Billboard 200. Go ahead and let the gasping commence...

Even though Descendants managed to “score” where peak position is concerned, its impact and sales are tepid to say the least. Descendants mustered up just 42,000 units and that doesn...

Plenty To Feast On In Luke Bryan's Latest Album

Review: Luke Bryan Bests Previous Albums With ‘Kill The Lights’
What is traditional country anymore? That’s an excellent, relevant question considering that it could easily be said that the “lines have been blurred” as modern country incorporates plenty of non-country elements. That isn’t to say that there aren’t traditionalists still (Kacey Musgraves is a prime example of a contemporary country artist who's throwback), but as with so much music, there is a new sound. Luke Bryan has been one of many country artists who’ve adapted their sound with dashes of pop, hip-hop, and dance. This is prevalent on Kill The Lights, Bryan’s proper follow-up to 2013’s...

12 Songs Using The D-Word
No folks, we’re not talking about the closing track off of Toni Braxton & Babyface’s collaborative album Love, Marriage & Divorce. Nope, we’re referring to that earth shattering, intensifying baby curse word. Justin Bieber used it on his Believe album – albeit subtly on “Die In Your Arms” – to exercise his burgeoning manliness. Other artists use it for emphasis – a pronounced, less harsh variant on the f-bomb. Some truly terrific songs have embraced being ‘damnable’, so here’s a list that’ll have you “Feelin’ Way Too Damn Good” as you read it, Nickelback.
