Jazz Great Dave Brubeck Dead At 91
Jazz legend Dave Brubeck has died a day before his 92nd birthday.
The revered musician and bandleader passed away on Wednesday at a Norwalk, Connecticut hospital. He died of heart failure.
The pianist became a crossover jazz great thanks to his work with the Dave Brubeck Quartet and hits like Take Five and Blue Rondo a la Turk.
However, he was also a civil rights hero, becoming one of the first leading white acts to perform at black jazz clubs throughout the American South in the 1950s.
Flowers will be placed on Brubeck's Hollywood Walk of Fame star to mark his passing.

Dave Brubeck Collects State Department Award
Veteran jazz pianist Dave Brubeck was presented with a U.S. State Department award on Tuesday for promoting America overseas. The 87-year-old, best known for his 1959 song Take Five, collected the Ben Franklin Award for public diplomacy from U.S. Secretary Of State Condoleeza Rice in Washington, D.C.
Rice said, "As a little girl I grew up on the sounds of Dave Brubeck because my dad was your biggest fan. Thank you for your patriotism and your leadership in representing America by introducing the language, the sounds and the spirit of jazz to new generations around the world."

Dave Brubeck Honored With Lifetime Achievement Award
Californian jazz pianist Dave Brubeck was honored with a lifetime achievement award at the BBC Jazz Awards in London on Thursday. The 86-year-old accepted the honor at the star-studded ceremony at the British capital's Mermaid Theater, which was hosted by Anglo-American broadcaster Paul Gambaccini.
American jazz singer Madeleine Peyroux was named Best International Artist, while Curtis Stigers picked up Jazz Artist Of The Year.
