Braid is an influential emo/post-hardcore band from Illinois that formed in 1993 after Bob Nanna (guitar/vocals) placed an ad in Maximum Rock n' Roll magazine. The original line-up consisted of Nanna, Todd Bell on bass, Chris Broach on guitar/vocals, and Roy Ewing on drums, who was later replaced in 1997 by Damon Atkinson. Braid's sound is driven by dueling guitars and duel vocals, with Nanna's voice being one of the most recognized in this genre. Braid released their debut album, "Frankie Welfare Boy Age Five" in 1995 on Divot Records and followed up with a national tour, playing traditional venues, such as bars and clubs, but also booking shows in the homes of their fans.
